Jasper National Park is Canada's largest Rocky Mountain Park and one of North America's largest natural areas - spanning 4,200 square miles of awe inspiring scenic splendor.
Shimmering glaciers, abundant wildlife, crystal clear lakes, thundering waterfalls, deep canyons and evergreen forests are all surrounded by towering, rugged mountain peaks. It is this incredible scenery which makes Jasper an international four-season destination which offers first-class visitor facilities and services.
Take a hike out to Pyramid Lake north of town, or drive up to Maligne Canyon just north of town and across the thundering Athabasca River. This canyon has a self-guiding trail which crosses over six footbridges with spectacular views up to a teahouse at the end of the trail. Or if you want to take a longer drive, continue to scenic Maligne Lake, the largest lake in the Rocky Mountains. You can also golf at the Jasper Park Lodge.
When you are in Jasper, take the Jasper Tram which takes you 3,063 feet up to the top of Mount Whistler for a spectacular view of the town. There's plenty of snow even in the middle of summer. You can also see the pyramid like Mount Robson - Canada's tallest mountain - over 40 miles away to the northwest.
Driving south of town, you can visit the awesome Athabasca Falls, only a 1/2 hour away. If an expansive landscape appeals to you, make a point of visiting the Columbia Ice Fields - North America's largest glacier, with an icecap over a mile deep. The icefields are about an hour's drive south of Jasper.
