1) One Jesus has made an attempt to save all of humanity if they
comply with His conditions. The other Jesus came to "save His people from
their sins" (Matt. 1:21) not just make them savable.
2) One Jesus is desperately trying to deliver as many as possible
from this evil world if only they will come. The Other came to
"deliver people from this evil world" (Gal. 1:4) not just attempt it.
3) One Jesus attempted by His death to make it potential that
all men might be holy. The Other came to actually make people
pure and holy (Eph. 5:25-27).
4) One Jesus loves all men equally, but that love can not persuade
men to come to Him. The Other "having loved His own, loved them
unto the end" John 13:1. And because He loved them, He has secured
their salvation in covenant redemption.
5) One Jesus's work is not complete since it does not save all who
were its object. The Other saved all who the Father gave to Him.
6) One Jesus is a helpless, anemic Jesus who weakly wrings His
hands together hoping more will come. The Other said "all that the
Father giveth to me SHALL come to me", and He also said when praying to the Father
that He would "give eternal life to as many as thou hast given Him".
7) One Jesus sees the travail of His soul and cannot be satisfied
because He sees that most for whom He died would ultimately perish.
The Other sees the travail of His soul and sees His seed and is
satisfied [Isa. 53.] Why? Because all for whom He set out to save
WILL be saved.
Which Jesus is worthy of worship? I will take the victorious Jesus
who came to save His people from their sins- not a defeated Jesus.
To believe in the finished work of Christ is to believe that all for
whom Christ died- died with Him judicially in covenant redemption. If
one believes that faith or some human abilty must be added to it, then they are actually saying that the work of the cross
stands eternally incomplete. It is then our faith or obedience
that is actually the catalyst. People that believe that Christ died for all men cannot sing songs like "There is Power in the Blood" without betraying their own beliefs. If they are correct, then there is no power in the blood because the blood by itself has no power to initiate the repentance and faith in the sinner. The unregenerate sinner then holds the power.
We should then rename songs like this:
Amazing Grace to Amazing Obedience
What side would you rather be on? The one that gives all the credit to
God or the one that takes some of the credit from God?
There is Power in the Blood to There is Power in Our Decision
Great is Thy Faithfulness to Great is My Faithfulness
