This Remembrance Day, remember not only our brave men and women who served their country but also the countless many who stayed behind, yet who's' hearts and thoughts were with those overseas.
Many of these people were at home, praying for loved ones, family members
or friends who were overseas. They were responsible for keeping the families
going and many worked or volunteered in institutions which were aiding
the war efforts. It was thoughts of these loved one who kept our
veterans going. Their letters, the cards, the little parcel they
received from home all of these let these courageous men and women know
how much they were loved and missed, how much they were appreciated. There
for we also owe our thanks to these thousand of men, women, children who
supported our veterans.

Many of those serving abroad during the war had children at home who
really didn't understand why daddy/mommy had to go away. All they
knew was their daddy or mommy whom they loved was gone and they missed
them. Of course there were older children who understood the situation
and knew the reasons for their daddy/mommy's absence. How they worried
and wondered if they would ever see them again. They wrote and prayed
for them. They missed them as only a child can miss a parent who
is absent. It is this love of a child in the heart of a parent which
helped to ease much of the misery of our soldiers.

When these men left to go overseas, many were married and had families
who depended upon them for love and support. Now, they were leaving
and it was the duty of the mother to keep the home fires burning.
How hard this must be, trying to be positive, not allowing the worry to
show to protect their children. They now had the responsibility of
being both mother and father until their husband returned. There were also
many not married; it was their boyfriend, fiancé or best friend
who was leaving them. They also worried wondering if they would ever
again see this person they loved so much. Through it all these courageous
women, yes they were courageous, wrote send packages and cards never allowing
their loved ones to know the problems they may have had at home.
It was because of their love and encouragement that our soldiers were free
from worry about how their families were coping. These women waiting
patiently for their loved one to return home and what a reunion it was
when and if they return home.

Thousands of mother's saw not only their husbands off to war but also their sons, daughters, brothers and yes even their own fathers. It is difficult enough to see one member of your family leave but when there were two, three, four or more how traumatic that must have been. They knew within their hearts that the chances of losing one of their loved ones was great, yet they never allowed this burden which weighed heavily upon their hearts to be known to those serving overseas.
Many of these women grieved alone when they lost a loved one.
Both parents grieved together at the loss of a child. Could anyone
ever count the number of times tears were shed for all the loved
one lost? It would be even impossible to fathom the countless tears
which have been shed.

During this century so many have lost a their husband or wife,
so many children one of the parents, so many a brother, sister or relative
all due to the tragedies of war. Yet, even as these people grieved
the loss of a loved they continued with their every day life. They
continued to hold families together even though their heart was broken
and they felt they couldn't go on. These brave and loving people
continue to teach their children, their grandchildren about the wonderful
person whom they may have never met. It is because of them that our
Veterans will continue to live on in the hearts of many. It is because
of their perserverence that our Veterans will be remembered from generation
to generation. So this Remembrance Day let us also remember these
wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, grandparents, relatives and children
who will continue with the traditions that honour our brave and dauntless
Veterans. Let us give thanks and honour to these people who even
through their pain are reaching out to help others remember all those who
fought for World Peace and Freedom.
