Bayeux Memorial
This Memorial is in honour of the land forces of the British Commonwealth and Empire who lost their lives during the evasion of Normandy. A total of 1,808 names which includes those of 270 Canadians whose final resting place is unknown are engraved on this Memorial. The evasion of Normandy or more commonly known as D-Day was the turning point during the war where Germany suffered its' greatest defeat. There was a total of 14,000 Canadians who landed in Normandy on D-Day. The Canadians suffered 1,074 casualties including 359, which were fatal.
Cassino Memorial
This Memorial can be found within the Cassino War Cemetery in Italy. It is a tribute to the 4,054 members of the Commonwealth forces including 194 Canadians who lost their lives while fighting in Italy. (1939-1945)
Groesbeek Memorial
The Groesbeek Memorial is located in Grosebeek Canadian War Cemetery approximately 10 kilometres southeast of Nijimegen in the Netherlands. It is in honour of the Commonwealth land forces who died in Northwest Europe fending off the invasion of the Netherlands and Belgium by German forces. The Canadian Army forced the Germans to retreat from the Scheldt making the port of Antwerp accessible to her allies. The fighting lasted from August 1944 to May of 1945. Many lost their lives during this time. Their graves are both in Belgium (11,000) and the Netherlands (20,000). There were also 1,068 who have no known grave with 103 of these being Canadians.
Malta Memorial
This Memorial built in Malta looks out over both the Grand Harbour and Marsamuscetto Harbour. It is in honour of all those who served with the British Commonwealth and Empire. These men help to guard and keep open vital sea routes linking various countries. These men served from the various bases spread throughout Europe. There are 2,297 names inscribed on this Memorial with 285 of those being Canadian.
Runnymede Memorial
This Memorial is situated at Englefield Green, near Egham, which is west of London. This Memorial is a tribute to the more than 116,00 men and women of the Air Forces of the British Commonwealth who lost their lives fighting for their country. Over 17,000 members served with either the Royal Canadian Air Force or the Royal Air Force. Of the number who died it is estimated that approximately one-third have no known grave. There are 20,450 names inscribed on this Memorial which includes the names of 3,050 Canadian airmen.
