Song playing is "The Old Rugged Cross"

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

"The Old Rugged Cross", was composed by the Reverend George Bennard (1873-1958) in 1913. Bernard was the son of an Ohio coal miner, and was always a servant of God. He is also responsible for writing over three hundred other hymns, with "The Old Rugged Cross" being he most popular. This hymn has been proclaimed to one of the world's best loved hymns.

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For the world of lost sinners was slain.

Chorus:

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my burdens at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.

Chorus

In the Old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see;
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

Chorus

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

Chorus

This hymn has always been one of my favorites. It shows the Love of God for us and how Jesus suffered and died and took our sins upon himself. Every time I hear this song it brings back memories of when I was young. This is one of the hymns that has always been sung at our Church during the Easter Service. I can still see and hear my grandparents standing beside me singing this song in Church. I know it is a favorite of my grandmother also because her face just shines with joy as she sings.
