THE STORY OF SANTA CLAUS
Continued from previous page

Next after having donned our hats, scarves, mittens and boots prepared for the frosty temperature we followed Santa as he led us into the vast wilderness outside the warm house. We were about to meet his famous reindeer, those magnificent creatures that on Christmas flew through the sky pulling Santa and his sleigh. This was so thrilling. I was especially looking forward to meeting Rudolph with his flashing nose. As we turned the corner of the house, there they were. All of them were there, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. And there, the most famous of all stood Rudolph his bright red nose flashing lightening the sky around him with a pink glow. This was wonderful, it was unimaginable seeing these reindeer up close. Quickly they ran over to us upon seeing Santa. They were so friendly, we patted them, fed them and I even got a kiss from Rudolph, then we watch as they romped around the field exercising and playing with one another. Once again it was time to go back to the house, sadly we waved to all the reindeer as we slowly trudged through the snow. As I glanced back for one final look in the fading light, the light from Rudolph’s nose shone brilliantly, illuminating the area in a warm rich glow of light.

Mrs. Claus was waiting for us to get back. She ushered us all into the dinner room where a lovely feast awaiting. It was a wonderful meal with Santa, his wife, the elves and ourselves gathered around the table, talking, laughing and listening to stories of Christmas past. After we had eaten, it was time for Santa to prepare for the long night ahead of visiting all the children. Mrs. Claus helped him into this ruby red suit trimmed with the whitest fur imaginable, a black belt encircled his waist and black leather boots which reached his knees and mitts to match. His snowy white beard was as soft as the fur upon his suit. He truly looked magnificent standing there all decked out in his attire. His eyes twinkled and shone as bright as any star which lit the sky and his smile lit up the room as love overflowed. He gave us each a candy cane in remembrance of our visit to his home. Quickly giving his wife a hug and kiss he turned and with a wave of his hand and a "HO HO HO" to us all exiting the house into the dark of night.

We all ran to windows, placing our faces on the pane as we watched him skip towards his sled which was waiting. Sitting on the back of the sled was his sack filled to the brim with toys ready to be delivered. The reindeer attached to sled with bells on their harnesses and leading the way of course was Rudolph. Silently he walked around the reindeer and whispered in each ones ear before hopping into the sled. With a final wave of his hand towards us all we heard him say, "On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer on Vixen, on Comet on Cupid on Donner and Blitzen." Suddenly the sleigh began to rise, the bells rang and jingled as they all rose like a flash into the star lit sky. Even long after we could no longer see them, the flash from Rudolph’s Nose still shone brightly against the dark skies.

With great sadness we prepared to return to our homes. It was now time to leave this wonderful fantasy land. Hearts heavy wishing we could stay longer we wished everyone a Merry Christmas and we were transported back to our homes with lightening speed. Upon awakening the next morning, I remembered every detail of my trip to the North Pole, the workshop, the elves, the reindeer and especially Mr. And Mrs. Santa Claus. But then was it real or just a dream. I don’t remember how we got there or how we came home. I remember closing my eyes and thinking only about Santa Claus, but don’t recollect how I managed to get into my bed. Maybe, just maybe it was a dream but then again how did I get this candy cane which I have clutched so tightly in my hand.

Now,  I can hardly wait till Christmas morning in a few days times.  Visions of presents keep popping into my head.   Will Santa Claus really come?  Oh, I certainly hope so.  I hope he visits all the chrildren around the world and each of them have the pleasure of opening their gifts.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL
