WHAT CANADA MEANS TO ME
Over the past few weeks as Canada Day draws nearer, I have been thinking of exactly what Canada or more importantly what being a Canadian means to me. I know my Canadian heritage means a great deal to me and I take immense pride in being called a Canadian. Not only is our country a place of awesome natural beauty but according to the United Nations, Canada is the best places in the world to live for many reasons. Canada has received this vote for the five past consecutive years as it has always been considered one of the largest, cleanest, safest and least populated countries in the world. Canadians are friendly, well educated, outgoing and non-judgmental people who virtually have roots from every area of the world.
For me, Canada is the most beautiful country in the world. As a country, Canada holds a vast array of natural scenic wonders from her vast mountain ranges to the low lands of luscious fertile vegetation. Our Prairie Provinces contain areas of flat land which stretches for hundred upon hundreds of miles. Even that holds beauty as the wheat ripens and sways gently to and fro with the breeze. In the far north, which is virtually ice and snow year round, the icebergs provide a brilliant and breath taking beauty when view against the backdrop of the shimmering sun across the sky. Canada can also lay claim to more than 282,000 square miles of Natural Park land, which is preserved and protected by government laws. We can boast of the thousands of clean lakes, rivers and other natural water supplies, which are abundant and freely accessible through out our land.
When we think of our natural wonders, the variety of our four seasons also comes to mind. How fortunate we are to have the variety in temperatures through the year as one season's flows into the next.
Our first season, spring, the renewal of life. What a blessing to watch as the first flowers of spring show their blossoms sometimes while snow is still on the ground. To watch the buds on trees open as they come alive with new growth once again. To listen as the air is once again filled with the sweet musical notes of the various birds enjoying the weather.
Next comes summer, warm lazy days of relaxation. At times the temperature and humidity combined can be overwhelming but this does not normally last for long. This is the time for family picnics, swimming in cool streams or just relaxing and soaking up the suns rays. And the most exhilarating and wondrous sight of all is watching a summer storm as lightening flashes across the sky, illuminating the surrounding area and thunder rumbles in background.
Our third season is autumn. What a beautiful and colourful time this is as the earth prepares for the coming cold. It is at this time I love walking through our woods. This is season when God's paintbrush has provided us with the most brilliant of all colours. The leaves as they change from green, to gold, red, brown and many shades in-between. Nothing is more beautiful than the colours of autumn.
Finally our last season, winter. This is time for snow, the time when you look out and everything is white. Winter sports, flying through the air on skis as you zip down a hill. Seeing your breath in air on a crisp winter morning. A time of great peace and quiet as everything lays sleeping, renewing its energy for the coming spring.
I think the thing the makes me most proud of Canada though, are the people who live and work here, my fellow Canadians. It is because of the hard work, dedication and love of the Canadian people past and present that our country has become what it is today. Canada's has an untarnished reputation which is recognized all over the world. We are known world wide as a peace keeping nation and always willing to send Canadians where needed to assist the United Nations in all their missions.
Canada is a free country. A nation that has grown and developed independently over the last 132 years. A country where the rights and freedom of others are protected by law and respected by other Canadians. We have a country that allows individuals to practice their own faith and religion without discrimination. Canada is a multicultural country and we are proud of the various cultures that join together to make this an unbeatable nation. We stand together, cultures combined to make this "ONE NATION UNDIVIDED." "UNITED WE STAND."
In concluding, I just want to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA," the best country in the world. I am proud to say I love being a Canadain and living in this beautiful land called "CANADA."
