Obituary
Mrs. Julia C. Shockley aged 63 years, died December 26th [1916] two miles north of the city at the home of her son, J. E. Shockley . She had been ill for some time but her condition was not thought to be serious.
She leaves three sons and three daughters, J. E., T. V., and H. B. Shockley, Mrs. Hattie Johnson of Commerce; Mrs. S. E. Hudlow, of Carl, Ga., and Miss Inez Shockley, of Plainview.
She was a member of the Baptist church and the beautifying influences of a pure religion were spread over a life and character as spotless and charming as was ever possessed by any of the noble women who have lived and died during the ages that are gone. As such a life was a blessing and a benefaction to all within the sphere of its influence, so it the death of such a one a public misfortune as well as an irreparable loss to the home circle made desolate by her departure.
The funeral services and burial were held on the 27th at Wesley Chapel, conducted by Rev. W. B. McDaniel.
To the grieved ones we join in extending sympathy.

On the same day, "The Wolfe City Sun" also had the following on page 1:
In the death of our loved mother, Mrs. Shockley, we suffered such heart toubles as only those having likewise suffered can understand. From out our pierced hearts we desire to let be known our appreciation of the many kind words spoken and deeds acted. May each of you have such friends as we in such dark hours. The Children
