My name is Ruth Schonder,
married nameTaylor. I live in Bucks
County, Pa
-
Brother Lou and I grew
up in Delaware
County, Pennsylvania where the rest of
-
our family still resides.
I began my Schonder family research October 20, 1996.
-
The only information we
knew was from what our grandmother Helen Meloney
-
told us, which wasn't very
much.
-
Our grandfather Louis Schonder
drowned in the Allegheny
River in Pittsburgh, Pa.
-
after falling from a canoe
before our father Louis was born.
-
We now know he fell from
the canoe Aug. 28, 1917 and
drowned
just 8 days before his
-
wife Helen of 9 1/2 months
was to give birth to their first child, Louis William Schonder
-
born Sept. 5, 1917.

We have located 7 generations
of family members. So far as of this writing all 40-50
Schonder's in the US have
ancestors who were born in Bischofsheim, Germany, along
with some of the Schonder's
in Germany having their roots from the same town.

Our Great-Great Grandparents
were Anton Aloysius Schonder (aka Louis)
-
b.1841 in the small town
of Bischofsheim, Lower Franconia Bavaria,
Germany
-
and Susanna Maeder b.1844
in the nearby town of Unterweissenbrunn Bavaria.
-
They came to America in
September 1868 leaving out of the port of Bremen,
-
Germany on the ship "Tuisko".
-
They arrived in the port
of New York listing their destination as Pittsburgh,
Pa
-
Alois was a tailor by trade.
Their American journey begins.
