Until a short while ago, the only thing I knew about my Father's family past his generation was the name of my Great-Grandfather; William. Thanks in great part to the internet, and the wonderful genealogy webpages, and homepages like GENHOME , I have taken this part of my family back to my Great-Great Grandparents, including great aunts and uncles.

Although I can not prove this to be the case, I am possibly sure that Samuel Lilley and Lucinda ?, are the parents of William H., although he would have been born when Samuel was 41 and Lucinda 39. Not unheard of; my youngest child was born when I was 40. Or it could have been Henry Lilley, born 1824. I'm still checking on this.

  • (I) William H. Lilley was b. in 1854, in, I am presuming, Pottsville, PA. He had at least one sister, Eliza. He married Eliza A. Bobbs, b. 1850, in, I am also presuming, Pottsville, PA. They were married somewhere between the years 1871 and 1877. William H. died in 1916, and Eliza Bobbs died in 1932. They are buried in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetary,Coal & Cherry Sts., Port Carbon, PA. The information about their children is taken from the Record of Baptisms from the Port Carbon ME Church.

  • (II) William Lilley married Effie May Forry, b. October 5, 1882, in Pottsville, PA. Effie May was the daughter of Andrew Sylvester Forry and Emma Delila Hosler. William and Effie were married in Port Carbon, PA. in 1900. Effie had eighteen pregnancies and only five of her children grew to adulthood.

    2. William Arthur Lilley, Sr., b. March 17, 1910, in Tamaqua, PA.
    3. Melvin Lilley, b. 1915- d. 1923, while playing traffic cop in the street in Reading, PA.
    4. Virginia Irene Lilley, b. 1917
    5. Theodore Kermit Lilley, b. 1922, in Reading, PA.

  • (III)William Arthur Lilley, Sr. married Anna May Lines, born March 17, 1910, in Reading, PA. Anna May was the daughter of Elmer Ellswoth Lines and Hattie Siegfried. Bill and Anna May were married on December 24, 1931, in Reading, PA.

  • A foster child, Charles William Boyer, came to live with Bill and Anna May when he was 11 years old, and was raised with the Lilley children.
