McLAUGHLIN
My grandfather JAMES DOUGAL McLAUGHLIN was born in Manorcunningham, Co. Donegal, Ireland on 27th Feb 1864 He died in Cairns, North Queensland, Australia on 20th Jan 1947.
We believe he came to Australia in 1901? as a young man with 2 of his brothers, HUGH and WILLIAM. William later returned to Ireland as Australia wasn't to his liking. Later William's son JAMES came to Australia.
My grandfather also bought here from Ireland in 1920 his sister SARAH HAMILTON and her 6 children.
JAMES DOUGAL McLAUGHLIN married ELIZABETH PACKER in Brisbane Queensland 7th May 1904. They moved to North Queensland where he worked on the railway and in the Hambledon Sugar Mill. They had 3 children SUSANNA, JAMES, and SARAH JANE my Mother.
After first coming to Australia the men worked on the Mundaring Weir and pipeline in Western Australia, we have no evidence of this it is only hearsay.
MARY-ANN married an American DAVID HOUSTON at Lifford, Ireland and had one child. She died shortly after it's birth and DAVID returned to America with his child, unfortunately none of the family that I know of has heard from him again.
Should ANYONE reading this family history have ANY information whatsoever, PLEASE contact me, there is so much that I don't know and would dearly love to fill in the gaps. Even if we are not related but just carry the same name I would still like to hear from you.

An Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back
May the sun shine soft upon your face,
The rain falls soft upon your fields
and, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
