THE CARROT EPISODE
Much of the canned goods were stored in the after torpedo room. One day, someone discovered that the cans of carrots would fit perfectly in the after room signal gun. The signal gun was a tube that protruded through the hull and could be used to send up flares. The cans were fired out using air pressure. I suppose that the Captain must have wondered why no matter how many cans of carrots they brought aboard, we always seem to run out of the carrots at about the mid point of the patrol.
