At Chilhowie UMC, we do not neglect needs within
our own community. The pastor has a discretionary fund available to use
in meeting needs that arise. Typically the fund is used for helping persons
with the purchase medicine and help with utility bills in the winter months.
We work in conjunction with the local Department of Human
Services to insure that the needs brought before us are as legitimate as
possible. Unless persons are willing to go first to the DHS, we typically
are unable to help them. Likewise, the DHS knows that if a need arises,
then we have limited funds that are available to help the person who is
in need.
We also work in conjunction with the Chilhowie Police Department
to give assistance to travelers that might be coming through the area.
All travelers that request aid, must first go to the police department
for a background check.
The above mentioned practices are adhered to by all the churches
in the Chilhowie Area Ministerial Association.
