Women of God Abigail so good, so wise Found favor in King David's eyes Nabal's sins she did despise She was a woman of God. Deborah so just, so brave Knew that God would Israel save The call to battle she boldly gave She was a woman of God. Jael so loyal, so sly Knew that Sisera must die Her hammer and nail she did apply She was a woman of God. Jochebed a mother so pure Wove a basket to assure That baby Moses would be secure She was a woman of God. Ruth so gentle, so true Left the only home she knew For Naomi and Boaz her love grew She was a woman of God. Hannah so bold, so sad Prayed that God would send a lad To fill the maternal need she had She was a woman of God. Mary so meek, so mild Was chosen by God to bear His child Mary's heart within her smiled She was a woman of God. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 (This is still not a finished product, but I wanted to include it before it got lost.) This is a Test Why are these things happening to me? God forgive me, but help me see. I shouldn't question your authority, But God why is this happening to me? And He said "This is a test, only a test. You, my child, have eternal rest. But for now give it your best Cause this is a test, only a test." Thank you God for loving me so For being with me wheresoever I go Thank you God for letting me know That you eternally love me so. And that this is a test, only a test As your child I have eternal rest And for now I'll give it my best Cause this is a test, only a test. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 Back to Index
CROSS BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD Just a little wooden cross By a busy roadside Marks the place Where some dear loved one died. Plastic flowers long faded Ribbons tied in a bow Are tattered and worn From sun, wind and snow. Once tended by someone Who lovingly cared For the victim, now gone Whose life they once shared. It stands as a reminder For those driving by To slow down and think But for God's grace go I. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 Back to Index
MELODY OF MY HEART Whatever you hear When I sing songs of cheer May sound like noise on your part. But I'm singing God's praise When my voice I do raise And God hears the song in my heart. If my singing is meant To delight human ears And my heart is bent On their praise. Then I will receive When the Good Lord appears No blessing for the hymns I did raise. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 Back to Index
PRAYING FOR YOU I am praying for you; what else can I do As in trouble and distress you call. I lift you to God through Jesus His Son He hears and answers them all. Praying for you, I am praying for you. Interceding to God on your part Praying for you, I am praying for you God hears the prayer of my heart. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 Back to Index
BLESSED COMMUNION When Jesus ate with His disciples The last time before He died. He gave them some instructions And in them we must abide. It's just a tiny piece of bread Just a little sip of wine, but "It's my body", Jesus said "It's my blood". These symbols lose their meaning When taken without a thought Of the great sacrifice That Jesus for us wrought. It's just a tiny piece of bread Just a little sip of wine, but "It's my body", Jesus said "It's my blood" So be careful to consider The full depth of meaning here And take of these precious emblems Praying as you draw near. It's just a tiny piece of bread Just a little sip of wine, but "It's my body", Jesus said, "It's my blood" ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 Back to Index
GIVING FROM THE HEART The widow gave a mite. Only one mite. But God knew That her heart was right She gave her all Her faith wasn't small God would take care of her tonight. When you give from your plenty Five, ten or twenty God knows if your heart is right So give your all to the Lord And He will reward A cheerful giver is the Father's delight. That poor widow of yore Gave even more Then I who from plenty am giving God knows my heart And a blessing He will impart If I yield all to Him from my living. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000 Back to Index
PLANTING GOOD SEEDS When you became a Christian You became responsible for your deeds But Satan's always workin' hard Plantin' his "evil seeds". Your mind's like fertile soil Many seeds are planted there So be careful what you let take root Or evil you may bear! Satan uses every means To plant evil in your mind Music, movies, books, PC Some way he's gonna' find. How do you fight this awful blight? How was it handled by the Lord? When Satan tempted him long ago He "sprayed" him with God's word. Face Old Satan squarely Start now without delay Take up the same tool Jesus used And Satan will run away. Fill your mind with "good seeds" They'll choke out the rest The Bible's God's "seed catalog" It will withstand the test. Satan won't give up on you He'll be back another day If he finds your mind an empty "bed" He may move in and stay. ...by Pat Gohlke August 1999 (For all my grandkids) Back to Index
FRIENDSHIPThe people who pass through our lives Are put there for a reason Some stay around for a long, long time Some for just a season. You came and left too soon, too soon I wanted you to stay My life will never be as bright Since you went away. You made an impact on my life By always being there For me or any one who had A heavy cross to bear. I'll always remember the joy you spread By the smile upon your face I know wherever you have gone Will be a brighter place. I look forward to seeing you again For this I always pray Whether on earth or in Paradise I'll find you someday. ...by Pat Gohlke August 22,1999 Back to Index
ONE ETERNAL DAYI was so deeply stained by sin But Jesus cleansed me deep within My way to Heaven did begin On that special day! (chorus) One eternal day in Glory I shall stand before His throne I will sing and shout the story By all the saints and angels known. When I repented of my sin God relented and let me in A heav'nly home is what I'll win On that precious day! (chorus) When Jesus hung upon that tree He did it just for me, for me. That His precious face I'll see On that glorius day! (chorus) By His blood my wounds are healed By His Spirit my fate is sealed By His promise this was fulfilled On that blessed day! (chorus) A feast is prepared for me on high With all the angels by and by There I will neither fear nor cry On that eternal day! (chorus) By Pat Gohlke July 1999 Back to Index
THE GARDEN OF MY HEARTWhat lovely fruit will grow and bloom In my hearts rich, fertile sod If planted there with loving care Is the seed of the love of God. What joyful array of colors And sweet fragrants will appear When planted there with loving care Is the seed of Heavenly cheer. What peaceful thoughts will be enjoyed In this garden of delight When planted there with loving care Is the seed of Christ shining light. How patiently we tend and prune And wait for our just reward When planted there with loving care Is the seed of His Holy Word. What goodness of this harvest We will share with others in this place When planted there with loving care Is the seed of God's precious grace. What kindly acts of charity Will fill our life with giving When planted there with loving care Is the seed of Christ like living. What faithful stewards we will be For our Master is so just When planted there with loving care Is the seed of Godly trust. How tenderly we will protect Each blessing on us poured When planted there with loving care Is the seed of a gentle Lord. When all this fruit does blossom Our hearts within us yearn When planted there with loving care Is the seed of His return. By Pat Gohlke January 5, 1999 Back to Index
THE MASTER'S MASTER PLAN! God's our Father! What a glorious thought That by His precious Son we're bought. Though we deserved a different lot It is His master plan. His master plan, His master plan From "in the beginning" To the last amen God has a design for every man It is the Master's plan. Purchased with a price so grand That by eternity is spanned. How can we help but understand It is His master plan. His master plan, His master plan From "in the beginning" To the last amen God has a design for every man It is the Master's plan. We deserved that thorny crown Into our sinful brow pressed down But Jesus wore it without a frown It is His master plan. His master plan, His master plan From "in the beginning" To the last amen God has a design for every man It is the Master's plan. He has reserved for us a crown of gold Riches in glory yet untold When His coming we behold. It is His master plan. His master plan, His master plan From "in the beginning" To the last amen God has a design for every man It is the Master's plan. ...by Pat Gohlke 5-28-98 Back to Index
Does God have feet At which I sit and listen to him speak? Does God have a lap Where I can climb when I am feeling weak? Does God have arms To hold me tight and chase away my fears? Does God have lips to kiss my cheeks and wipe away my tears? Does God have eyes to look at me when I've been very bad? Does God shed tears of sorrow When my sin makes him so sad? Does God see my repentance and draw me to His breast? Does God wrap His arms around me To keep me safe and blessed? Does God have ears to hear me? Is He listening to my request? Does He answer me so sweetly Sometimes "No" and sometimes "Yes"? Does God lift me up into the air When He is very proud? Does God lay beside me in the grass And point to a cloud? Yes, I know God can do everything On that I can depend But He gave me daddy to be close When I need a God with skin. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, TX Back to Index
THE BIBLE...
...MEN APPROACH IT WITH WORLDLY WISDOM AND SAY "IT CAN NOT BE" THEY ANALYSE AND CRITICIZE THE TRUTH THEY DO NOT SEE THEY SAY "THIS CONTRADICTS ITSELF. WHY, WHO WOULD BELIEVE THIS STUFF?" THE SIMPLE WORD SO PURE, SO GOOD FOR THEM IS NOT ENOUGH. THE STUDY OF THE BIBLE HAS TO BEGIN WITH LOVE AND FAITH AND UNDERSTANDING WILL COME DOWN FROM GOD ABOVE. HOW DO YOU APPROACH THE BIBLE? ARE YOU FILLED WITH GODLY LOVE? OR ARE YOU FULL OF THE WORLDLY WISDOM THAT SATAN IS FATHER OF? ...by Pat Gohlke Back to Index
Isn't it wonderful That God is able To forgive a sinner Like me? Why was he willing To go to such lengths To snatch me from Hell's agony? I don't understand Why Christ had to die. Was I really worth Such a price? That God would let Jesus His one and only son Leave His sweet home in Paradise. I don't comprehend God's wonderful love That made Him endure Such a loss; But Jesus was ready And willing and able To take all my sins To the cross. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx Back to Index
WHO AM I? I'm a MEMBER of the LORD'S CHURCH The one He said He'd build Upon the rock of promise As God from day one willed. I'm a BAPTIZED BELIEVER Immersed into His name I came forth from the water His salvation now to claim. I'm a MEMBER of the BODY Of which He is the head The church of Christ most holy For it He suffered and bled. I'm a STUDENT of the BIBLE For it's God's holy word I read it's message daily It's the best one ever heard. I'm a SOLDIER in CHRIST ARMY Alert to every foe I listened for His order And I heard Him tell me "GO" I'm a MESSENDER for JESUS With a message loud and clear And if I don't deliver it How will the lost world hear? I'm a CITIZEN in GOD'S KINGDOM I'm subject to the King I will give Him my allegiance And His praises I will sing. I'm a SERVANT to my FELLOWMAN To everyone in need If I truely care for them I'm doing God's will indeed. I'm a WORKER in GOD'S VINYARD For Jesus is the vine And we each are the branches Put there by God's design. I'm a CHILD in CHRIST'S FAMILY He loves me this is true And when He comes to take me home I pray He takes you too. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx Back to Index
"FROM LITTLE WHITE LIES"
I had a little sin. It was "white" as it could be. It wasn't very heavy So I carried it with me. I didn't try to stop it It wasn't such a bad sin But before very long It had asked two "grey" friends in. What was I to do now? It was much to late. I didn't start to fret Til two more came through the gate. These last two were "charcoal" A very troublesome pair The weight of them upon me Became more than I could bear. When two more got past me Who were truly "black" as sin, I stumbled from the weight of them And couldn't get up again. How had all this happened From just those little sins? How could I have known They would invite in all their friends? Then from inside my head Came a voice meek and mild It was from the scriptures That were taught me as a child. "Bring all your sins and lay them Down at Jesus feet. He will cleanse your heart And make your joy complete." ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx Back to Index
THE CHRISTIAN WAY
The Christian way is never dreary For Jesus makes our joy complete. If you're feeling tired and weary, Don't let it be for your defeat. Open up the word God gave us It's the only place you'll find All the thoughts of Christ, most precious, He'll refresh your heart and mind. Don't let people all around you Pull you down into despair, It doesn't matter what they do For Jesus Christ is always there. So put a smile upon your face, Tell the world you live for Him They will want to share God's grace When they see what He can do for them. Read John 15:11 ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx Back to Index
TRUELY CARING
If we just go about from day to day, Passing people on our way, Never look into a face Never share a warm embrace, A smile here, a handshake there, Just to let them know we care. Will they see Jesus in our smile? Will our caring ease another's trial? We never know when our littlest deeds Will help to fill anothers needs. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx Back to Index
"LAYING UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN, MY CHILD"
As I sit in my chair early each day Praying while all is still calm, My little ones come and sit at my feet And ask 'What are you doing, Mom?' I just look in their faces and say with a smile, "I'm laying up treasures in Heaven, my child." Laying up treasures in Heaven, In the store house of the Lord. Laying up treasures in Heaven, Where all good deeds are stored. As I cook and sweep and scrub and fold, I sing happy songs of praise. My little ones watch and listen to me, But they are puzzled by my ways. I just give them a hug and say with a smile, "I'm laying up treasures in Heaven, my child." Laying up treasures in Heaven, In the storehouse of the Lord. Laying up treasures in Heaven Where all good deeds are stored. In the evening when my days chores are oer, I sit down and open God's word, I read aloud of His wonderful Son To my family who might never have heard, If I had not chosen to say with a smile "I'm laying treasures in Heaven, my child." Laying up treasures in Heaven In the storehouse of the Lord. Laying up treasures in Heaven Where all good things are stored. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx Back to Index
LIVING TO DIE OR DYING TO LIVE
My life was a terrible mess But Jesus set me free. He died so that I could live With Him for eternity. I died to the sin of the world Now Jesus is living in me He lives through me in the world For all mankind to see. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx This may be sung as a round. Like this:

Two girls live at our house, They're both in their teens, And it isn't so easy sometimes It seems. But when I think of the circumstances That brought it about I am humbly brought to my knees Without doubt. The angels in Heaven looked down from above And saw our home so chocked full of love, So they looked all around for just the right ones To become our families little daughters or sons. First came Amy with blond curls and blue eyes, When the angels saw her they said "We realize That this is the only acceptable child Who can fill the void in this home so mild." When two years had passed, this happy three Decided a foursome we needed to be. So we prayed to the Lord that just maybe Some where in Heaven He could find a baby. And one lovely spring day when the telephone rang, The hearts of each one of us literally sang, As the voice on the phone said our baby was there, We thanked God above for answering our prayer. Then we jumped in the car and raced to the city, And when we saw Lori, she looked so pretty, With big brown eyes and thick brown hair, We opened our hearts and took her into our care. Now 13 years have passed since that wonderful day When this little girl came home with us to stay. Now two typical teenagers anyone would be proud of Typically shun all the chores that they can get out of. The younger ones interest are cheerleading and boys And primping and boys and all of that noise. While the older one is quieter, more pensive and warm; Her interest are ag class and boys and farm, And boys and reading or writing a poem About deep things like love and devotion and home And injustice and sorrow and happiness and such. Her insight at 15 is considerably much. Two girls so different, but each reaching out For attention, for understanding, for love and no doubt They'll get it from us or look some other place For warmth, for tenderness, for an accepting face. I pray to God to make me a mother These girls can turn to when there is no other, And that my husband can keep a firm upper hand And a shoulder to cry on, on which they can depend. They are 15 and 13 on this day that I write, But before many more years they both will take flight. Perhaps they will go to a far away college To fill their heads with wisdom and knowledge; Or become the wife of some lucky young man, And have a family, now won't that be grand! Whatever they do, where ever they go, My prayer is that God will keep them free from all woe. ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx (1984) (July 1999 Addenda: Amy has two little girls and a boy. Lori married Kenny. They have two little boys and live in the Austin area of Texas. My prayer is still that God will keep all eight of them from all woe.) Back to Index
God's Word - My Strength The Philistines blinded Samson after cutting his long black hair. Only then could they subdue him cause God was no longer there. They only thought he was defeated. They thought his strength was gone. But when his hair grew back again he pushed the pillars down. The secret of Samson's strength was doing what the Lord had willed. It was his secret weapon, with it the Philistines were killed. Satan thought he had subdued me. He thought my strength was dead. But the "ropes and thongs" of sin I snapped as though they were made of thread. The secret of my strength and power is obedience to God's word. It is my only weapon my flashing two edge sword. Satan won't give up on me, he's crouching at my door, But with God's word growing in my heart he can't hurt me anymore. Chorus: Samson slew the Philistines with power from the Lord. I can slay my enemies by God's almighty word. ...by Pat Gohlke January 1999Back to Index
Back to IndexWHAT A MIRACLE! You felt the first time I moved in the womb. Mom said "Oh my, she's an active little one." You placed your hand gently on mom's tummy And I gave it a good swift kick and you said "What a miracle! What a miracle!" When you finally got to hold me in your big strong arms. A tiny little girl all pink and cuddly And you looked into my eyes and I in yours I heard your loving voice say again "What a miracle! What a miracle!" "Little Miracle" grew up and sometimes got in your way Or made too much noise or didn't obey. You had to discipline with a firm father's hand Then you held me close and as I fell asleep in your arms You looked down at me and whispered "What a miracle! What a miracle!" When the day came that I became a bride In all the excitement you were pushed aside. But on that day when I took my place by your side You looked at me in my beautiful bridal glow And said again with a tear in your eye "What a miracle! What a miracle!" With each grandchild I placed in your arms You held them and loved them as you had me. You just couldn't seem to take your eyes off them Then we looked at each other and said together "What a miracle! What a miracle!" The day came when God decided to take you home to Him And I stood by your hospital bed and held your hand I said over and over "I love you daddy" for all the times I forgot to tell you before. Your eyes were closed and you may not have heard But as your life slowly slipped from your body you squeezed my hand and I said through my tears "What a miracle! What a miracle!" ...by Pat Gohlke, Ranger, Tx (1999)
BOOT CAMP TO HEAVEN! Life is like a boot camp to heaven We run Satan's obstacle course each day But God is our commander in chief We heed His every word and obey. The penitent sinner He trains with a kind words And a loving, forgiving, soft voice, But the hard hearted sinner He boldly rebukes And the slacker is given a choice. Enlistees may have rough times now, But abundant life and peace are our rewards. And a home in Heaven when our time here is served With every blessing Heaven affords. We hear the bugle call early in the morn We read the Bible to know how to serve. Then we talk it over with our Commander in Chief He answers us without reserve. The wonderful thing about fighting this war The victory was won long ago By the Lord Jesus Christ on the Calvary hill. And we want the whole world to know. ...by Pat Gohlke - February 2000Back to Index
