There once was a boy named 'Ocenida' he had a best friend named Jack..both boys were in the band together..and enjoyed each other's company..but above all Ocenida was a genius..his average IQ ran in the high numbers..and to have such an IQ as high as a hundred and thirty for a young boy who was only eleven years old..was just outstanding..much less simply remarkable.. He spoke as an adult..and in knowing how to speak was often chosen to do skits for the church plays and he always did most by memory..only glancing at the information to read only once..everyone thought he was such a grand boy..as did his friend Jack..
Although Jack was not as smart as Ocenida they were stead fast friends and were always thinking of things to do in chemistry and science..this was Ocenida's best field just to play around with.. On this nice spring day..the weather warm and sunny and Ocenida's birthday today..his mother and father surprised Ocenida with a beautiful large Chemistry set..oh he was so pleased..and could not wait to call his friend Jack..
Jack was anxious to see the new chemistry set..since his was the older set that he and Ocenida used a lot just to play around with... With months of trying new recipes and going by directions..both boys tested and tried all kinds of things..and although they did not venture to try anything on their own..they always had the thought of doing something which would be just out of this world..something they two would be known for..
Ocenida had an idea..and being very intelligent as he was he read and read upon new things to do with his wonderful chemistry set..and one day decided to tell his secret of a grand idea he had..like the movie he and Jack had seen of shrinking children..he knew he could do this too!! After much ado with all the trying and testing..and learning by fault..he had a new drink down pat..now was the big day to try this..he and Jack both would drink the new mixture and they would find out then and there if this new potion would work.. Not saying anything to anyone they proceeded into the basement where Ocenida had his chemistry set up just like you would see in an actual chemistry lab..all the glass bottles..the lines..heated bottles from the gas flame..oh it was a wonder to see..between the two boys now they poured the made up potion into two glasses..just the right amount to each .. not being afraid they both drank their potion in one big gulp..
After a few moments..they looked at each other and did not see any change..somewhat disappointed..they started for the stairs..well maybe another time..not thinking of the outcome..they two boys went outside to see the new puppies that Ocenida's dog had..four new fat and cute babies..they were glad they had something to do other than worry about the old potion..maybe something was left out..they would try again at a later date..
That night when Ocenida went to bed he drifted off to sleep with thoughts of all the exciting things he would like to do with his chemistry set..and he would become famous for all his contributions he could eventually make to science..
Ocenida had been a sleep for awhile now and woke up so thirsty..raising up to get out of bed he found that the bed was huge..it sure did not seem this big before he went to bed..right off he realized that the potion was working..
Oh my what would he do now if his mom found out..she would really be upset..calling Jack..he answered his bedroom phone in a sleepy voice.."Jack don't be upset..but I think that the potion we took is working" Upon hearing this Jack was up and turned on the light..yes he was smaller and the bed was larger..all excited now he was anxious to know what they could do..his mom would kill him if she knew what he had done..more worried about their mom's being mad and upset..they both decided to take an antidote..this would be the only reasonable thing they could do..
Sneaking out of the house..Jack was over at Ocenida's house in no time..and coming in through his bedroom window..so no one would see him..they rushed to the basement..still they were getting smaller..just within a thirty minute period they both could see that things were larger than life..what would they do!! With everyone on both households in bed..they boys frantically set out to fix this horrible problem they had brought on themselves..in the wee hours of the morning and smaller as the hours went by..both boys were terrified that they would always have to be tiny..they were not like the story Tom Thumb but they were not far off from the fairy tale..
Ocenida read and read..and said to Jack to be calm he would get it all worked out before daylight..well it would not be long until day light and time was pressing.."ok I think I have it..and fixing the last little potion ingredients he and Jack blew on their little potions to cool it down to drink..in a blink of an eye they both drank the thick tasteless mixture..sitting down on the floor..within a while they could feel things looking normal and back to their original size..Ocenida had done it..he had made them their own correct size..and both boys were so pleased and thankful that things had turned out for the better...and not for the worst..
Jack was going home now..tired from the strain of worry over what had happened..he looked back at Ocenida who was packing up the chemistry set.."what are you doing..Jack was asking" In reply Ocenida looked at Jack and said.."better to leave well enough alone"..we sure should not change destiny'' from then on the boys did not dare to try any new experiments..and it goes to show you although very intelligent and smart..look before you leap!!
