There was once two cute yellowed hair little girls..one's name was Brennie..the other Susie..they were next door neighbors and had lived beside each other all their lives..
Now Brennie had a really sweet grandmother who lived across the street and she was always telling the girls such wonderful stories..they would sit by the hours listening to her "Granny Mae" telling all those wonderful tails that little boys and girls love to listen too..
Some were of the Bible..other stories were just those that we all have heard..like Cinderella..or Snow White ..but this day Granny Mae said she had something very special for them..so Brennie and Susie settled down in front of Granny on the floor looking up into her face with antipation..
This was going to be so much fun..and to make it ever so nice Granny had baked a nice batch of her famous home made chocolate chip cookies..they were so happy to have something that was so good..and listening to the stories..having a little treat made it all the more interesting..
There were many things that Brennie and Susie like to do together..they swam in the little creek and tried to catch the beautiful butterflies they saw in the field behind there homes..and with summer to be here soon they would go to the Church Camp for two weeks and enjoy all their new friends..riding horses..and learning more of Jesus..
One day as they played they ran out to the edge of the big field and saw a big thick tall leafy stalk growing upwards..this leaf tree had great big green leaves on the stalk and the stalk it self was thick and heavy by the way it looked..Brennie and Susie would play dolls under the big leaves..they were so large they were like a regular umbrella and gave so much shade..they called it their out side playhouse..this really was a nice funny looking tree they had found..
Each day they would go check how much more the leaf tree had grown..each day you could tell it was getting taller and just as straight growing upward as the first day they found their leaf tree..well weeks went by and now the leaf tree was taller than the homes they were living in..still there were those big green leaves close to the ground all the way to the top..oh this leaf tree was magnificent..
They told no one and wondered if anyone would find out about their little secret find..so far no one had..! But if they did.. would they chop the leaf tree down..? If someone did fine out and destroy their leaf tree they would not have a wonderful tree to see any more..so both Brennie and Susie said they would make a promise to tell no one other than Granny..
On a rainy summer day the girls just could not keep their little secret to them selves any longer..and had to tell Granny of all the excitement they found playing and watching the leaf tree grow..Granny promised the next day she would go with them to see the nice tree..so early the next day after breakfast they three of them walked to the big field and there was the huge leaf tree..with all the rain it had grown more..and the girls were so surprised to see that the leaf tree had doubled in size..and soon would be bigger than the tallest building in town..they could not get over how much larger it was just in two days..
Granny was so happy to see what the girls had been talking about but had no idea the tree was this big..it looked like a giant bean stalk like the story Jack and the Beanstalk..but this was not a bean stalk..they are very tiny and thin and this was not..
Every day the girls and Granny did go to the field to check on the ever growing leaf tree as the girls called it from the start..now the leaf tree was almost up to the clouds..when you were looking up at the clouds and saw the leaf tree almost there..it made you dizzy to look all that way up..and Brennie would sway and nearly fall from looking up so high at the leaf tree..the girls would laugh..and they still enjoyed the fun of all this new found joy..
Granny said not to go back for awhile..and see if the leaf tree would grow any more..so far a week the girls did not venture to the field..on the seventh day Granny and the girls went to check again to see what had happened in the week they did not go to the field and low and behold to their surprise there was another big leaf tree right beside it looking and growing just as fast as the first leaf tree..now this was something ..so after looking at this new leaf tree..the girls decided they would not go back for a few weeks and when going back they knew that this new leaf tree would be about the same size..
On the appointed day that Granny said they should go the three ventured to the field one more time ..and there both leaf trees were..intertwined together..making a very large big green ladder straight to the clouds..oh they were so happy and excited..
They two girls knew they would have to climb that ladder..wondering where it might go they ask Granny ..well the only thing that Granny could come up with was that this ladder was a special wonder to a beautiful place called Heaven.. and that Jesus had put this ladder here for a reason..now if this was so..and they thought that it was..well they could climb to heaven and see the streets of Gold..and the beautiful Gates of Heaven..and maybe they could see some of their friends who had gone to heaven..and Susie was wondering if her pet dog had gone to heaven since he had been hit by a car and went to doggie heaven they would just have to go
.. So the next day Granny said she would take them..this would be a long climb and she would help them..they had some fruit and kool-aid along with jelly and peanut butter sandwiches in case they got hungry..
Here they were looking at the nice green strong leafy ladder..and as they stepped onto the first rung of the leaf ladder with all three holding on together the ladder started to feel like it was moving..with the movement they stood very still but they could see that the leaf tree was really moving..although it was standing in the same spot..they were going upward..for a long time they rode and rode until they were past the clouds and still riding..
Brennie and Susie settled down on a big leaf and watched the clouds roll by as they started to eat an apple..and Granny getting tired too..sat down on another big leaf and looked at all the wonders of the sky passing them by..they could not see the field any longer..or the top of the buildings..and Granny wondered if this really was a very smart idea..she was thinking it would take a long time to get to Heaven and she did not want anyone worrying about them..maybe it would not take much longer now!..The sky was turning to such beautiful colors..and the white bright light of the sky shown for and wide as they proceeded upward..oh the sky was so pretty she had never seen the sky this nice not even in a rainbow..and Granny knew then she had done the right thing..she knew they were getting closer to heaven..
There was beautiful music as they continued to ride on their ladder..and something off in the distance was coming towards them..what was that..Granny had to reach into her apron to find her glasses..well it was an Angel..she was about the size and age of Brennie and Susie..and landed right beside them..both the girls were so tickled to see a real live angel..and the little angel said "you have come to visit and see Heaven"..and when they all said yes..she began to tell of the nice big leafy tree..and that only good little girls..and people with faith would ever see the leafy tree..and they were the only ones to ever have a chance to see Heaven..The girls had such a wonderful time in Heaven playing with all the angels..and seeing so many wonderful things that people do not get a chance to see on Earth..and Susie saw her little doggie..but knew she could not take him back home..but she sure did enjoy playing with her puppy for the time being..Granny Mae was most happy..she could see her friends and some of her family that she had not seen..and wanted to stay..but they said she could come back another day anytime she wanted to and they could visit..but the leafy tree would only be around for awhile..and then it would go away forever..
Each day the girls and Granny went to heaven to see and visit..and play..and knew that one day on a special day they would be able to see Jesus but that time was not now..so now as the girls are growing and Granny is getting older they look forward to seeing Heaven again..knowing that the beautiful music..and the lovely colored clouds and the shinny bright light will be waiting for them one day...
