VANDERHOOF Family

VANDERHOOF HISTORY

The Vanderhoof family History was originally researched and written by Wilson V. Ledley. New York, October 1959. This was obviously a labor of love by Mr. Ledley. His sources were Ship records, Dutch Reformer Church baptismal records (pb.), New York and New Jersey Court House records, other family histories and DAR record books. He states in his introduction that "Historically there was very little immigration from Holland between 1675 and 1848," The time of arrival into America for most generations is actually linked to the widow Geertje and her children.

Most of Mr Ledley's research has been verified BUT his research is not exact.
My "own" VANDERHOOF research has proven that. His research on Richard/Dirck Vanderhoof (my ancestor) that he lists as Richard #167,is not the son of SARAH BOSS. Per US census, Richard Vanderhoof Sr was between ages 80-90, thus making his date of birth between 1740-1750. Abraham Vanderhoef married Sarah Boss in 1752. Minor errors can be found in his work.

The complete document can be order from Salt Lake City through a local LDS Family History Library. Film # 61651

The VANDERHOOF family first came to America in May 9, 1661 from Holland on a ship named The Beaver. The widow Geertje Cornelis (Van der Hoeve) and her six children arrived in New York mainly staying in Brooklyn. From there, branches spread westward in the early 19th Century.
