Morrisville
The original name of Morrisville was Lynch Cove. It changed its name to morrisville in 1910 after Newfoundland's twelfth Prime Minister Edward Morris.
The area of Morrisville was most likely inhabited by Micmacs before any European fishermen came to the area. The first permenent settlers were three Kendell brothers from the neighbouring community of Milltown.
Robert Kendell and his three sons, John, Albert and James came to Morrisville to operate a sawmill during the summer. In 1910, the brothers built a log cabin and stayed there but eventually returned to Milltown for the winter.
It is around this time that Morrisville changed its name. Originally called Lynch Cove, it changed its name to Morrisville in 1910 after Newfoundland's twelfth Prime Minister Edward Morris.
The town was predominantly Chruch of England. The first school/chapel was built in 1926. A separate school was constructed in 1928. The first Anglican Church in Morrisville was the Acsension Church built in 1926 by Bishop White. It was the first one in Bay d'Espoir. It remained in use until a new churh was built in 1958.
The growth of Morrisville's population has taken on a similar development as all the communities in Bay d'Espoir. This being a steady upward increase until the 1960' and 1970's, where you being to see a large out migration of people. (1920-60 people, 1971-223 people,1986-221 people)
