Dear Mr. Langer and/or Ruthadale,
My name is Thomas Moran. I live in North Dallas, Texas. I am the only nephew of Captain Wilfred H. Ringer Jr. of the Goettge Patrol. He was my mother's younger brother. I can authenticate my identy.
I would like very much to correspond with you for ANY information about him that you can give me.
Since my uncle was killed at Guadalcanal when I was 2, I have what I think is a faint memory of him just before he shipped out from Boston in very early 1942.
Any information which you could give me about my uncle would be coveted.
Thank you,
Tom Moran - [email protected]

Thanks for providing a new genealogy link for me to search out my family (Montclair). My parents have a double lot in Cape Coral. Can't tell you where it is though. I do know that it had an underground owls nest on it. Write back when you have time. Maybe
you can give me some search tips. Thanks. Gary

I spent several months in the Solomon Islands a few years ago on my small sailboat. Have you ever returned there? I am originally from Oklahoma but now live in Brisbane Australia. If you are ever in the area I would be happy to show you around.
All the very best. I greatly admire men like you.

Sir,
First, I would like to thank you for your service to our country. Without men and women like you I would not have the opportunities that I have today. I am researching Women Marines during WWII and have been in contact with a few. I also am part of a livi
g history group that portray Marines during WWII. Many of the men were Marines during Vietnam and have chosen to keep your memories alive. I intend with another women to portray Women Marine Reserve. We have a long road ahead of us. We hope we can honor
ll service men and women during that time.

Perhaps you could help me. I am a Marine Corps major. My dad, who will be 81 this Veteran's Day, is a WWII vet, a USCG chief petty officer, who was a combat photographer for 5 years in the island campaigns in the S. Pacific. He took photos of Marines
anding on the islands and still has many. Anyhow, I am looking for a military genealogy form or interview sheet with questions so an amateur like me can ask substantive questions in a logical manner. Do you know if such a thing exists? I'd appreciate a
y leads at all.
Sincerely,
Melinda Hofstetter

Hi, My sister and I are interested in obtaining information concerning our Father's time in the 1st marines. We don't know a lot although we are trying to get him to talk about it before it is too late for us to get information from him. We do know that h
was an enlisted man stationed in the Pacific and made 12 beach landings including Guadalcanal. He told my mother (a Wave who he married on 10/9/44 in DC) that if he was ordered back to make another beach landing (which would have been his 13th) he would
esert. We also know that he was very bitter after the war (and still is) because of what he felt was betrayal on the part of the Marines. My mother died in 1960 and so she is not a source of information. Could you give me some ideas as to how to go about
inding out where he was stationed and to possibly find any men still living who might have known him in the Pacific or while he was at Quantico in '44? by the way his name is Paul James McGrath and was called Mac. He was born in 1921.

Dear Don,
Was pleased to see you have posted your story on the Web -- good job! I appreciated greatly the contribution you made to our pages, "A Marine Diary: My Experiences on Guadalcanal." I have had at least one inquiry from a Marine historian regarding the "G
ettge Patrol." I gave him your email address; I trust he got in touch with you. Would be pleased to add your link to our pages. Was moved to read about some of your buds on the 'Canal. You and all the guys are heroes to me and my generation, but then,
you already know that! Best Regards to you and keep up the good work. The world needs to hear your story, and that of the Marines who gave their all throughout the Pacific. Semper Fi...Jim Garrett

Wish I had known about your service while I was down there. Being a Viet Nam vet I like to talk old shop but had to be careful who I talked to about the service. Now people treat us OK but there was a time when they didn't. My Son, Ken Jr. went to Desert Storm as a tow gunner for the Marines & kicked butt, taking out 3 enemy tanks, and capturing a Republican Guard Major that was calling in artillery on allied positions.
Don, I enjoyed your page and will talk more later.
