Helen's Doll Project

I am a librarian/Title I teacher in a small school in Colorado, U. S. A. .

I am also a porcelain doll artist and a doll doctor in my spare time.

I so enjoy sharing my collection and the dolls I make with the children and staff at school.

I constantly use my dolls when thematic themes are being taught in the various grades.

I have showcased my dolls of the world and used them in my library

class for that grade to discussclothing styles etc,

I have used story book dolls or those that depict a certain era to highlight numerous books

on display, I am at the moment featuring

Chinese and Japanese dolls for two grades,

I use my dolls for holidays decoration as well. I enjoy showing my dolls and the children

and staff enjoy hearing and seeing them, often a child or one of the teachers

will bring a doll to school to show me.

Numerous times an adult will see how I display the dolls and go home

and dig out an old doll they had put away and now enjoy it every day.

The joy of the dolls grow when you share them.

The Art of the Doll

On May 18, 2000 the great event happened in our city Ekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk) that is situated in the center of Russia, in the Ural Mountains. We’ve opened the first museum of Dolls and Children Books “Wonderland”!

For 7 years I collaborated with the Museum of Ural’s Writers, making different doll exhibits: ”My beloved dolls”, “Russian Toys”, “Dolls of the world" and etc. They were very popular, so at last it was decided to open the museum!

It started with the exhibit of American dolls, devoted to the 50-th Anniversary of the UFDC. Many members replied for my ask and sent dolls – donated or in trade for my dolls, so I could form a very good and spectacular exhibit! I’m so grateful for the help and support I got!

And I got the idea to show the role and significance of the doll! Here many people still consider a doll to be only a cheap plaything for little children and nothing more… So, I decided to make the exhibit "The Art of the Doll " that will show different dolls – old, folk and artists’ dolls that are real pieces of art!

I suggest to trade dolls for dolls made by myself. I’m the member of the British Doll Artists Association, AADA, UFDC and the Union of Designers of Russia. I make one-of-a-kind cloth dolls in Russian native dresses (real, not relative), fashion and fantasy dolls. And I paint one-of-a-kind Russian native dolls Matryoshka.

What I need for my project – different dolls of any medium made by artists. It can be one-of-a-kind doll or the doll, made by the artist for some firm like the Ashton Drake Galleries, Semoir Mann, Danbury Mint and others. The main aim is to show that dolls are the art!
