FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY 1998
L to R: Among those participating are Nick Ashley, April Holahan, Ed Harris, Michael Ferguson, and Heather Bridges
On June 14, 1998, a little over 100 people braved temperatures in the lower 90's to attend a flag retirement ceremony on the Johnson County courtsquare in Clarksville. The Clarksville Chapter, NSDAR, along with Boy Scout Troup 76, and Johnson County Girl Scouts planned and participated in the ceremony. Due to the success of last years ceremony, the flag retirement ceremony is already in the works this year. DAR members from around the area will be invited to attend, as well as Boy and Girl Scouts from adjoining counties. In addition, area Veterans will also be actively involved next year. Congressman Asa Hutchinson has graciously donated a flag that has flown over the nation's capitol for this years ceremony.
Coverage of the Flag Retirement Ceremony makes the front page of the Graphic.
Tom Cogan, Scoutmaster for Troup 76, and the Flag Retirement Ceremony Color Guard, salute the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Among those actively participating in the flag retirement ceremony were (from left), Misty Bridges, Nick Ashley, Cassie Bridges, Ed Harris, Heather Bridges, April Donald, Jason Kremers, Michael Ferguson, and Travis Robinson.
