Catherine Deming says he was a relative of the Jenks family. He came to Tioga Co in 1800, joining Michael, Laban and Jesse Jenks at Jenksville. Sarah: She was called "the first Pioneer Woman of the West Owego Creek Valley.

          106.  ii    Sylvia Scott born Apr 7, 1811, Jenksville, NY, married Nov 2, 1830, in Candor, NY, Daniel Boughton, born 1805, Dryden, NY, (son of John Boughton and Mary (?)) died Jul 26, 1881, Nahsua, IA, buried: Plainfield Cemetery.  Sylvia died Jan 26, 1894, Plainfield, IA, buried: Plainfield Cemetery.  Daniel: "Of Jenksville". He purchased the lumbermill in Jenksville until Apr 27, 1868 when they left Jenksville for IA.

          108.  iv   Patience Eudora Scott born Apr 13, 1815/7, married Oct 7, 1836, Lyman (Lymon) Legg, born Jul 15, 1812, (son of Aaron Legg and Amy Freeman) died May 23, 1889, Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, buried: Speedsville Cemetery Lot #13-Old.  Patience died Jan 12, 1876, Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, buried: Speedsville Cemetery Lot #13-Old.  Lyman: He was a dealer of flour and also made bricks and soap and sold potash as they lived near a potash spring.

          110.  vi   Jonas Foster born Jul 6, 1822, married Lossette Rees, (daughter of Jacob Rees and Rachel (?)). Adopted son. Was raised as a Scott son, and inherited as a son, although he may have never been legally adopted. He and Rachel had 2 children, died as infants, a son and a daughter and 3 grandchildren by 1895.  One of these grandchildren was Fannie Deyo whose mother died when she was very young and Jonas and Rachel raised her.  She married Seymour Leet, s/o Samuel and Sarah (Skellinger) Leet.

84.   Laban Jenks (47.Mary5, 27.Jacob4, 11.Joseph3, 2.Edward2, 1.Christopher1) born July 11, 1772, Smithfield, RI, married Sep 22, 1793, in Cheshire, MA, Prudence White, born Jan 25, 1772, Newton, MA, (daughter of Nathaniel White and Mehitable Morey) died Jun 24, 1855, Bloomfield, MI.  Laban died Sep 15, 1829, Bloomfield, MI.  They lived for a time in Adams, MA but were in Tioga Co., NY in 1805.  On Nov 10, 1821, they moved to Bloomfield Twp., Oakland Co., MI.  Laban and Elisha, together with a cousin Michael Jenks settled on Oswego Creek, near Speedsville, NY, arriving about 1800.  Laban opened a small store around which a little hamlet called Jenksville began. Members of the MA syndicate that bought townships in Tioga region. Built first log house west of the River Rouge.

          137.  vii  Morris Jenks born Oct 7, 1801, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married Nov 20, 1828, in Bloomfield, MI, Almira Botsford, born Jul 27, 1807, (daughter of Simeon Botsford and Esther Clark) died Mar 8, 1883, Southfield, MI.  Morris died Feb 18, 1878, Southfield, MI.  Moved to Bloomfield MI in 1827 with his parents and their family; bought government grant in 1830 in Southfield, MI and built a log house which was replaced in 1851 with his permanent home.  He lived on the old Indian Trail leading to Detroit, and his mother, Prudence White lived nearby.

          138.  viii  Laura Jenks born Mar 24, 1805, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married (1) Jan 20, 1823, Oliver Torrey, (son of (?) Torrey and (?)) married (2) Harvey Botsford.  Laura died May 4, 1870, Pontiac, MI.  Oliver: Perhaps relative of Samuel Torrey, Newark Valley, NY b. 8/15/1787 d. Berkshire, NY 9/15/1864 and Sarah Durfee b. 8/8/1787 d. Berkshire, NY 12/11/1816. Came to MI at the same time as the Jenks family.

          139.  ix   Nathaniel Jenks born July 4, 1806, Caroline, Tompkins, NY, died Sep 7, 1808, Caroline, Tompkins, NY.

          140.  x    Diadama Jenks born Jan 30, 1808, Caroline, Tompkins, NY, married Jan 2, 1832, Darius Thayer.  Diadama died Dec 3, 1893, Groveland, MI.  Darius: Came from Pembroke (now Darian Twp., Genessee Co., NY to Bloomfield, MI in 1831.

          141.  xi   Sophia Jenks born Dec 16, 1809, Caroline, Tompkins, NY, married Dec 4, 1828, in Bloomfield, MI, Rial Irish, (son of Benjamin Irish and (?)). Sophia died May 21, 1885, Pontiac, Oakland, MI.

          142.  xii  Laban Jenks born Apr 16, 1811, Caroline, Tompkins, NY, married Apr 17, 1834, in Redford, MI, Ann Jane Burgess, born 1816, NY, died 1898.  Laban died Apr 28, 1886, Groveland, MI.

          143.  xiii  Prudence Jenks born Nov 29, 1812, Caroline, Tompkins, NY, married Aug 25, 1830, Calvin Herrick.  Prudence died Nov 12. 1850, Pontiac, MI.

          144.  xiv  William Jenks born Jun 6, 1814, Caroline, Tompkins, NY, married May 17, 1827, in Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, Amy E. Comstock, born May 31, 1818, Smithfield, RI, (daughter of Isaac Comstock and Mercy (Marcy) Scott) died Apr 14, 1890.  William died Apr 1, 1891, Bloomfield, MI.

 

85.   Elisha Jenks (47.Mary5, 27.Jacob4, 11.Joseph3, 2.Edward2, 1.Christopher1) born June 27, 1774, Cumberland RI, married c. 1793, in Cumberland RI, Anna King, born Sept 27, 1771, Or Oct 27, 1772, (daughter of (?) King and (?)) died June 15, 1851, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, Tioga, N.  Elisha died Nov 13, 1840, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, Tioga, N.  Anna: Berkshire NY DAR records say d. Jun 15, 1854.  She could be of the Clement King line, also from RI. Only family information is that she had a sister named Hannah, who married a William Vickery.  There were some Vickerys in Owego and Syracuse at the time, but no William.

          145.  i    Daniel Jenks born Oct 4, 1794, Cheshire, Berkshire, MA, married (1) bf. 1813, Abigail (Kinney) Keeney, born May 21, 1795, (daughter of Thomas Keeney and Mercy (Marcy) Lamb) died May 10, 1864/5, married (2) af May 10, 1864, Clarissa (Northrup) Northrop.  Daniel died Aug 29, 1871, Vestel, Broome, NY.  Abigail: Browne calls her and her parents Kinney. Another genealogy devoted primarily to Thomas does not list her as daughter. She is obviously really Keeney. Another genealogy has her as the daughter of Thomas Keeney and Hannah Soule.

          146.  ii    Susanna Jenks born Dec 10, 1795, Cheshire MA, married c. 1814, Eli Blackman, born Nov 11, 1784, Peru, MA, (son of Abraham Blackman and Sarah A. Loomis) died Jun 13, 1847, buried: Blackman Cemetery, Caroline, NY.  Susanna died Oct 10, 1851, Peru, Berkshire, NY, buried: Blackman Cemetery, Caroline, NY.  Eli: They resided in Rawson Hollow, NY, which was settled by Lyman Rawson and the Blackman families from Peru, MA.  This later became Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY.  One genealogy calls her (?) King, probably confusing her with her mother.

          147.  iii   Calvin Jenks born Aug 8, 1797, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married July 19, 1819, Annis Ellen Brown, born Mar 14, 1801, Plymouth VT, (daughter of Daniel Brown and Polly (Jenison) Jennison) died July 15, 1869, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cem. Jenksville, Tioga, NY.  Calvin died Mar 3, 1886, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cem Jenksville, Tioga, NY.  Calvin was 3 years old when he arrived in the valley of the West Owego Creek in 1800 after his father returned to MA to bring his family to the new settlement.  Annis: AE Jenks statements call her Annis Allen Brown, which conforms to Tioga Genealog. Soc. materials sent us, although they have her father as Abraham Brown (as listed in 1820 Berkshire NY census).

          148.  iv   Huldah Jenks born July 28, 1799, Berkshire Co., NY, married Feb 14, 1827, in Berkshire, Tioga, NY, Hiram Humphrey, born Mar 1796, Cheshire, Berkshire, MA, (son of Roswell Humphrey and Elizabeth (Betsey) Norton) died Feb 12, 1878, Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, buried: Speedsville Cem. Lot #02-Old.  Huldah died Apr 28, 1865, Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, buried: Speedsville Cem. Lot #02-Old.  Hiram: They resided at Speedsville, NY.

          149.  v    Amy Jenks born May 8, 1806, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married David Aldrich, born Sep 25, 1771, Mendon, MA, (son of Edward Aldrich and Ann Chamberlain) died Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, NY.  Amy died Dec 22, 1881.  David: Amy was second wife. Browne book indicates that Amy and David had no children.  Since Amy was b. 1806, she would have been 39 at time of Polly Aldrich's death/  A LDS file gives Davids father as Levi Aldrich and mother as Abigail Hunt.

          150.  vi   Sabin Mann Jenks born Feb 28, 1816, Berkshire, Tioga,  NY, married c. 1836, in Cheshire, Berkshire, MA, Eliza Jane Armstrong, born 1816, died Nov 4, 1898, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville,  NY.  Sabin died Aug 29, 1865, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, Tioga, N.  They resided at Trumansburg, Seneca, NY Eliza: Probable relative of the Henry Armstrong buried at Glen Hope Cemetery, NY and the W. Armstrong also buried there.

          151.  vii  Elisha Jenks born c. 1818, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married Diana Burgess, born 1830, died 1859.  Elisha died Sep 30, 1856, Owego, Berkshire, NY.  They resided in Owego, NY.
