Descendants of John Lewis Junkin

Stormont Lineage

The family was originally Huguenots from France in the 16th century, emigrated from their home near Inverness, Scotland into Ireland sometime before 1688 during the Stuart prosecution. They were Covenanters, of the strictest type, singing or chanting only Psalms and prohibiting the use of musical instruments. Joseph immigrated to New Castle, DE where uncles and cousins had previously settled, with his wife and two brothers. The Junkins lived for years around Inverness, Scotland and then in Ulster, Ireland.  Dr. Roy Stevenson King, a descendent, wrote in 1939 The Junkin family was an ancient family claiming Huguenot descent from ancestors who were driven from France in the 16th century.
