Jenks Lineage

 

In Saxon the name was spelled Beorht, meaning excellent of distinguished man.  There is reason to believe that the Brights were related to the Brights of Kent. Was called Deacon.

 

1.    Henry Bright baptized: Sep 20, 1560, St. James, Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk Eng, married Mary (?), died aft 1618.  Henry died 1609.

Second Generation

 

2.    Henry Bright (1.Henry1) born c. Dec 29,1602, St. James, Bury S. Sufflok, England, married abt 1634, Anna Goldstone, baptized: May 16, 1615, Wickham Skeith, Suffolk Co., England, (daughter of Henry Goldstone and Hanna  (Anna) (?)). Henry died Oct 9, 1686, Watertown, MA.  Eastman says buried in MA.  He was the only one of the Suffolk Co., England to come to New England.  It is thought that he came soon after 1630, and with Gov. Winthrop, as they were from the same county.  He was one of the founders of Watertown MA. 48th on the list of the First Church of Boston.  Freeman on May 6, 1635.

3.    Nathaniel Bright (2.Henry2, 1.Henry1) born May 5, 1647, Watertown, MA, occupation Tanner, Farmer, married July 26, 1681, in Watertown, MA, Mary Coolidge, born Dec 11, 1660, Watertown, MA, (daughter of Simon Coolidge and Hannah Barron) died Dec 1, 1717, Watertown, MA.  Nathaniel died May 11, 1726, Watertown, MA.

                      Children:

       +5.     i    Nathaniel Bright born Dec 28, 1686.

5.    Nathaniel Bright (3.Nathaniel3, 2.Henry2, 1.Henry1) born Dec 28, 1686, Watertown, MA, married 1714, in Watertown, MA, Anna Bowman, born Dec 4, 1695, Watertown, MA, baptized: Sep 6, 1698, (daughter of Nathaniel Bowman and Anne Barnard). Nathaniel died Dec 14, 1737, Watertown, MA.

                      Children:

6.    Anna Bright (5.Nathaniel4, 3.Nathaniel3, 2.Henry2, 1.Henry1) born Feb 27, 1715/6, Watertown, MA, married July 16, 1736, in Lexington, MA, Daniel Brown, born Dec 21, 1703, Watertown MA, (son of Joseph Brown and Ruhannah (Ruhamah) Wellington) occupation Tithingman, Assessor, died Feb 26, 1796, Plymouth VT, buried: Plymouth Notch Cemetery.  Anna died Jan 18, 1780, Lunenberg MA.

          14.    viii  Martha Brown born Jun 18, 1749, Lexington, MA, married Z. Brown.

          15.    ix   John Brown born Aug 12, 1751, Lexington, MA.

          16.    x    Hannah Brown born Apr 14, 1754, Lexington, MA, married Nathaniel Gibson, born 1753, died 1824.  Hannah died 1789.

          17.    xi   Mary Brown born May 5, 1758, Lexington, MA, married Abraham Gibson, born 1752, died 1829.

 

Sixth Generation

 

7.    Nathaniel Bowman Brown (6.Anna5, 5.Nathaniel4, 3.Nathaniel3, 2.Henry2, 1.Henry1) born July 1, 1737, Lexington MA, married Feb 7, 1765/6, Abigail Page, born Sep 15, 1744/5, Bedford MA, (daughter of Cornet Nathaniel Page and Hannah Blanchard) died Aug 5, 1799, Plymouth VT, buried: Plymouth Notch Cemetery.  Nathaniel died July 30, 1806, Plymouth VT, buried: Plymouth Notch Cemetery.  One of 12,000 Minute Men - fought in battle of Bennington. He resided in Lexington, MA until 1722, when he moved to Lunenburg, MA, where they remained for 17 years.  They then moved to Plymouth VT, where he was the 4th settler of the town, known then as Saltash.  His first home was a log cabin at the head of Lake Amherst, not far from where the soldiers camped during the Revolution on their way to Crown Point. The post office was in his house, the first town meetings and church were also held there. DAR 22684

          19.    ii    Abigail Brown baptized: Apr 26, 1767, married Robert Bishop.

          20.    iii   Nathaniel Brown baptized: Mar 26, 1769, Bedford, MA, married Ruth Lane, born 1770, Bedford MA, died Aug 18, 1838, Plymouth MA.  Nathaniel died Apr 28, 1834, Plymouth, MA.  Moved to Plymouth, MA July, 1814

          21.    iv   Anna (Nancy) Brown baptized: Feb 3, 1771, married Samuel Cook.

          22.    v    Hannah Brown died Michigan.  Died unmarried.

          23.    vi   Thomas Brown born Oct 20, 1779, Lunenburg MA, married Feb 23, 1805, Sarah (Sally)  Parker, born Sep 10, 1782, Westford MA, (daughter of Ebenezer Parker and Experience Keep) died June 18, 1869, Plymouth VT.  Thomas died Aug 14, 1839, Plymouth VT.

          24.    vii  Joseph Brown born Jan 24, 1782, married (1) Betsey Wright, married (2) Rachel Fitch.  Joseph died Aug 26, 1858.

          25.    viii  Daniel Brown baptized: Dec 10, 1775, Lexington MA, married Polly (Jenison) Jennison, born Aug 30, 1779, Vermont, (daughter of Abijah Jennison and Mary Robinson) died Aug 21, 1862, Ann Arbor MI.  Daniel died March 11, 1857, Ann Arbor MI.

          26.    ix   Ruhamah Brown born Jan. 17, 1784, married Daniel Barrett.  Ruhamah died Jan. 14, 1863.

          27.    x    Polly Brown born 1786, married (1) Moses Fitch, married (2) (?) Brown.  Polly died c. 1886, Michigan.
