What a lovely surprise discovering all these cousins via the web! My mother Barbara Meyer was the eldest daughter of Dudley Pohl, brother of Victor Pohl and second youngest son of Carel Frederik. Dudley appears in the family portrait in the back row on t e extreme left. He was married to Martha Elizabeth de Bruin and passed away during the 'groot griep'. Martha and Dudley had three daughters; Barbara, Nerine and Verona, all of whom, except my mother are deceased. My aunt Nerine would have been chuffed ou of her socks to see your website! She was a great one for family history. Well done.

Like the Schivelbein pictures! Viewed north from the town center there used to be a shoe shop just to the left of the Stone Tower Gate. when my mum was a child, c1910, my gran used to buy her shoes there. And just before the rght side of the gate was a ha dware shop, and, in the 1920's, my aunt was apprenticed in it to be the owner's assistant. Both shops are shown in a picture in "Der Kreis Belgard" published 1989 by Celle Museum in Germany. Its great to see another view of the street. By the way, if you heck the book you'll find a picture of the Bismark statue in the town square. My mum told me that about 1910, in the summers, after shopping, the mums would sit and chat on benches around the square whilst all their the kids played tag around the statue. br>

Haar twee seuns, wat ek ook destyds ontmoet het, is oom Frikkie Pohl (het op 'h plaas buite Tzaneen gebly) en oom Eddie Pohl, wat 'n haarkapper in Tzaneen was en is??). Freek, Het baie gehoor van jou tuisblad by my stiefpa (Frederik Pohl - Pretoria) en ek moet s� dit lyk baie goed georganiseerd. Ek werk en bly in Tzaneen en hier is nog heelwat van die Pohl familie hier. So nou-en-dan verskyn daar 'n foto van een van die Pohl' en dan stuur ek maar 'n uitknipsel na my stiefpa toe. Finding your site made my day. My family also came from Schivelbein. It was a surprise to see pictures of the town. If you have more nformation on this town, I'd like to hear about it. My great-great grandfather John (Johann?) Bilke, his wife Caroline Schliewe and son Frank came to the US in 1871. It's not likely, but it may be that the surnames may cross with yours somewhere along the line. If you have any information, I'd like to he r about it. If I find anything, I'll let you know.
