Mozilla is a 2 year old male Green Iguana. I have had him since 3/19/97. I found him when I was shopping for iguana accessories at a nearby pet shop, when I happened to look in their display tank. There was an extraordinarily stunning specimen, not only in color but also in size, and he was marked at half-price. When I questioned the salesperson as to why such a stunning specimen was marked at half price she had told me that when the iguana was being harvested from growth farm in South America, his tail was accidentally pulled off during netting, so this stubby specimen was reduced because of his temporary handicap. I immediately put a deposit on him and quickly purchased the rest of the accessories I would need to complete his tank at home. The next day I picked him up and brought him home to be placed in a temporary tank, a twenty gallon, until his present 29 gallon home was emptied of its aquatic occupants due to a relocation. Thanks to a calcium supplement and a varied vegetable and staple diet, not only has he grown his tail back completely, but he has also grown tremendously and is due for a new 55 gallon apartment of his own. Mo's temperament has also softened due to plenty of petting and hand feeding, and as seen in the photo, the pervert often tries to sneak a smooch here and there.
Mo is an excellent swimmer and climber and is very comfortable wandering around my room. About 90% of the time he is found on the headboard of my bed sunbathing in the stream of sunlight from the window just overhead with his head propped up on my alarm-clock radio. He is fearless when it comes to climbing on other people. C-Money was victimized while browsing for CD's, as shown in this photo.** Mo is generally friendly and very rarely shows signs of aggression unless you disturb his tank while he is either dining or snoozing. I highly recommend Iguanas as pets, as long as you are prepared to handle the commitment associated with these fascinating animals, such as the constant attention, varied diet and ample space. They should be bought at the juvenile stage so as to provide plenty of time for the owner and pet to adjust to each other, any other older iguanas should be avoided because of their unpredicatable behavior and nasty dispositions (Not to mention the painful claws of an adult!).
