My dad was born September 03, 1910 in Calhoun County, Miss. to James William Prewett and Edna Mae Henderson. He attended school in a one room school house thru the eighth grade which is equal to a high school education today. He grew up in a small community in which he met and married my mom. They built a home and continued to live there for 21 years. Dad farmed and drove a school bus until the age of 54. He then began working in a factory. At that time, dad sold the farm and we moved close to the small town in which he was working. He had to retire in 1994 due to bad health. Dad died September 25, 1997 of colon cancer. He was a member of Hunter's Chapel Methodist Church and a WWII veteran. Dad and my mom, Susie Virginia Bowling were married on December 11, 1943.

Dad always saw the good in everyone and never said a bad word about anyone. Everyone that knew him thought of him as a good christian man and loved him.

I miss my dad very much but I know that he is in Heaven with God and there is no more pain. He and his grandson, Tony, and great granddaughters, Laken and Michelle are now together along with the rest of his family. Sometimes it is good to know there are constants in our lives, like the big dipper, the old willow tree in the middle of the cottonpatch and the big old barn that held its share of cows, pigs and dad's mules, Bird and Diner. Oh, the joy of a new born calf or litter of pigs. I spent many a day in that old barn feeding and petting the animals. I have all the good memories of growing up on a farm and sitting on the porch at night listerning to the birds and crickets chirping. We would look for the North Star at dusk everynight and make a wish, then when all the stars were out, dad would point out other stars and constellations. We always gazed at the pan shaped stars with the handle dancing before going inside. There's a country song with the words "if the world had a front porch we would all be friends" that is so very true. During the summer, we would go fishing and walk in the woods. My sister was seven years older than me so dad would play basketball and other games with me. We always had a big snow in the winter when I was growing up and we would get out and hunt for stranded and hurt animals. Whether it be a crippled bird or lost baby rabbit, we would take it home and nurse it back to good health, releasing it back into the woods when the weather was better.

Dad was always there for me.
I Love You Dad

God saw you were getting tired and a
cure was not to be. So He put his arms
around you and whispered, "Come to
Me." With tearful eyes we watched
you, and saw you pass away.
although we loved you dearly, we could
not make you stay. A golden heart
stopped beating, hard working hands to
rest. God broke our hearts to prove to
us, He Only Takes The Best!

Through God and all His wonders
Another Soul's gone Home
Their life and purpose is fulfilled
Their time on earth is done
God understands our mourning
He gives us tears to grieve
He also gives us joy in death
If in him we believe
Yes, God in all His wisdom
Gives us His peace within
In truth we know the one gone home
won victory over sin
So grieve, but too, be gladdened
Whether life be long or short
The love which eyes cannot behold
Still lives within the heart.
