FAMILY FOOTSTEPS

I feel that I must give credit for the Footsteps Verse to Roxi BRIGGS HENSLEY, whose research also connects to my JARRETT and VINCENT research, as well as other allied names.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go..

Some people become friends and stay a while.

leaving beautiful footprints on our hearts...

and we are ~ never ~ quite the same; because we have made a good friend.

OBITS....

This obituary for Julia Power Richards Vincent was written by Minerva Ellie [Nellie] Richards Dunlap in Seattle, Washington in 6/9/1889. It was again published in the ASHLAND Independent Newspaper by Rev. Robert E. Dunlap, Pastor of First Christian Church of Seattle, Washington, on 7/10/1889 and again, on 8/1/1889 by Michael A. Vincent of Abilene, TX. It says:

Julia Power Richards VINCENT b. 1/25/1853 m. Lewis Steward VINCENT 5/11/1875, d. 6/9/1889 in Soldier Ky. "Her sickness was long and painful; but she bore it patiently, fully trusting in her Master, whom she had served from childhood; that all would be well. She made the good confession and was baptized in the winter of 1867-68, and lived faithfully up to this confession. And although surrounded by many disadvantages, she steadfastly sought to raise her family in the fear and instruction of the Lord. Here was a beauty of character that cannot fade away. The sunlight of her precious memory will shine upon every dark valley through which we, who are left, must go."

The above obit was actually contributed to me, by Pastor John Quigley, whose wife, Catherine Yvonne Vincent, is descended from John Frazier VINCENT [Brother of our Joseph VINCENT JR.]

LANDS and DEEDS...

Those of us studying Greenbrier Co. and Shenandoah Co. VA/WVA, will surely recognise some of the surnames represented in this information. If you want more complete dates or anything, please feel free to contact me.

Joyce Armstrong Cooper

Joseph Vincent Sr. bought land in Greenbrier Co. near Swopes Nobs and Greenbrier River from MATHEW MOSS in 1774. [from Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement VOL II, by Chalkley]. However; research shows that the family did not return to Greenbrier Co. VA/WVA until after "the war".

Joseph VINCENT Sr. bought 200 acres of land in Shenandoah Co. from a John CRUM in 1778.

Information about Shenandoah Co. deeds is from the Shenandoah Co. Land Records [Va/WVA]

Joseph Vincent Sr. sold the above property to Phillip VARNER in 1787.

Joseph VINCENT Sr. and Rosanna sold property in Shenandoah Co. to Jacob PENCE

The deed states that they were living in Greenbrier Co. at the time.

In 1783, Joseph VINCENT Sr. enters 200 acres of land by warrants assigned by HUGH MCWILLIAMS and for 125 acres joining the land of SIMON ADKINS lower plantation on the south side of Greenbrier River and extending toward the knobbs. A more complete wording of this contains the information that 50 acres of this land was "lifted" and given to George STUART

[from Greenbrier Co. Land Entry Book, as written in Vincent Family information]

Joseph Vincent Sr. and Rosanna Poole rented land in Frederick Co. Va. from Henry STEELE in 1806

[from Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement VOL II by Chalkley]

Joseph Vincent Sr. and Rosanna are listed as owners of 100 acres on Little Sandy Creek of Elk River, Kanawha Co. VA. [1814 Land Book]

John Frazier VINCENT, as administrator of Joseph VINCENT Sr's will, made a deed for 62 acres of land to William Hinchman of Monroe Co. Va. [From Monroe Co. Deed Book pg. 702]. William Hinchman is most certainly the father of John HINCHMAN who married Eve Sarah VINCENT, dau. of Joseph VINCENT Sr.]

James JARRETT enters 200 acres per order from George ANDERSON, who was assignee of James THOMAS, by virtue of a Treasury Warrent for 4000 acres #19546 dated 1783, joing General WASHINGTON's land, and Lewis and John DICKENSON in the Burning Spring botton. [Greenbrier Co. Land Book]
