Who is Lucy Jopling?

We need some help with verifying the parentage of Lucy Jopling. It is well documented that Lucy JOPLING married Joseph VINCENT in 1802 in Kanawha Co. [See the link to the Kanawha Co. Archive below]. Here are the facts as we know them right now.

There has been talk that Lucy is the daughter or granddaughter of Thomas JOPLING and Sarah JOPLING of Kanawha Co. Va., since they seem to have been the only JOPLING family in Kanawha Co. Va., at the time. However; our information has only turned up four verified children, in the family. It has been said; though that there were eight children, born to the family.

Here are the verified children of Thomas and Sarah [Stevens] Jopling:

1. Ralph JOPLING b. 1772 d. 1794 in Kanawha Co. WV m. Susannah Casdorph who d. in 1810 in Kanawha Co. WV.

2. James Stevens JOPLING b. abt 1777 m. Nancy Gliddens and Rebecca White

3. Nancy JOPLING b. 1775 d. 1796 m. Isham BAILEY Jr.in Kanawha Co. WV in 1812

4. Behethland JOPLING b. 1772 -1795 m. Marshal BOWMAN in 1794

Besides our Lucy JOPLING, there are two other JOPLINGS who need to be verified as to parentage. It is probable that Lucy and these children were the rest of the known eight children of Thomas and Sarah Jopling, listed above.

1. Elsie/Aley JOPLING m. Shadrach SAMUELS in Kanawha Co. WV. in 1800

2. Edward JOPLING who was found in an 1810 Kanawha Co. WV Census.

3. Thomas???

Late breaking news!!! I received a booklet from the Kanawha Genealogical Society called " Ancestors of our Members Vol 5". It included tree information given by Ruth Vincent Burrill. Ruth Vincent Burrill lists the parents of

Lucy Jopling Vincent

as Thomas Jopling and his wife Sarah [Sally] Stevens. Since her research does not in any way depend upon mine or vice versa, I consider this good information and some verification of a fact that we have long thought was true; but could not verify.

Joseph VINCENT Jr. married Lucy JOPLING 1802 Kanawha Co. VA.

John Sidney VINCENT married Matilda MOORE. They came west to Oregon.

Oliver VINCENT married Mary Ann MEYERS/MYERS.

Charles Oliver VINCENT married Lavinia Jane GORDON in Oregon.

Oatman Oliver Vincent married Violet McKUNE in Oregon.

Geneva VINCENT married Albert COOPER in California.

William Cooper married me, Joyce BRUNS ARMSTRONG-COOPER.
