provided by: Grady Ellison Beierbach, Box 947, Truth or Consequences, NM. Grady
wrote an unpublished manuscript on the Chilton's in 1976, with good research
on the Thomas Chilton m Sapphira branch. She has date of birth for James as 23
June 1834 from the Bible of Callie Chilton her grandmother. James death
certificate has date "May 16 (?..very hard to read) 1833". His pension
application reads born 1834. Grady provided considerable information on James
and his descendants. In brief; James A. was in the Civil War in Confederate
States services in 1861. He was wounded in 1864 in Washington County, TN and
taken as a Prisoner of War in 1865, held in the Louisville Prison and released
on 16 June 1865.
