Eight children were born to Catherine and Rufus, they were living in Jefferson
County in 1867. (Ref: Deed to Thomas Biddle for their share in division of
James Chilton land). The settlement of estate of Ernest S. Chilton in 1953, has
the statement that Katherine and Rufus had eight children.

Catherine Rice made her Will on 17 Mar 1902, Will Book 1, page 252, Hamblen
County, TN. This named her son William Horace Rice (regarding a Note),
three daughters viz.; Harriet A. Rice, Lizzie A. Shields, and Margaret
Lafferty, son Rufus E. Rice, and son James A. Rice who is named as Executer of
will. [Researchers note; It is not clear if Catherine named all her living
sons]
