| I could spend several hours just checking out the ampitheater. The Pompeii Ampitheater is dated as being the oldest of all still existing buildings of its kind and could seat up to 20,000 people in its three tiers. They watched fights by gladiators and wild animals, but only during the summer months. They even had a canopy over the top of the seating areas to provide respite from the scorching heat. | | |
