ALL EVENTS LISTED ARE COMPLETELY ACCESSIBLE FOR DISABLED PERSONS

BELMONT SHORE CLASSIC CAR SHOW, LONG BEACH is the largest one-day open air car show in the west. Limited to pre 1975 vehicles, hundreds of cars are shown off on 2nd Avenue in Long Beach's Belmont Shore area. The street is closed to traffic for this event and admission is FREE!

Take the 710 freeway to Bellflower Bl. Go south to 2nd Avenue/Westminster Ave. and turn right to Bayshore Avenue. Second Sunday in September.

MONROVIA FAMILY FESTIVAL is held every Friday night, March through December on Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia. Rides for the kids, petting zoo, craft fair, entertainment, food stands, and a farmer's market combine to make this a night to remember for anybody. Great old-time small town atmosphere and it's free too!

Take the 210 freeway to Myrtle Avenue and go north to Olive. Fridays 5-9pm.

IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY - OPENING NIGHT L.A. is going back to it's racing roots with new tracks popping up all over the place. The newest venue...and also the closest...is the new Irwindale Speedway which will be having it's grand opening on March 27, 1999. $25 for adults, $15 for kids.

At the Live Oak exit west of the 605 Freeway.

THE LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX is an Indy car race held on the beachfront streets of Long Beach each April. This is a very fun race to see and general admission starts at $15 on race day. Reserved seats are substantially more, but worth it for the main event. Here's Danny Sullivan after he won it a few years back -

ROUTE 66 CELEBRATION, DUARTE. This event in September starts with a parade down historic Route 66 (Huntington Drive) and continues on with a picnic and car show at nearby Royal Oaks Park. Starts at 9:00am and free admission to all events. Take the 210 freeway east from Pasadena to Buena Vista Avenue. Go north to Huntington then right. Park at the city hall...1600 Huntington Dr....or anywhere nearby. Parade starts in front of city hall and continues east on Huntington 1 mile to Mt. Olive Dr.

The picnic and classic car show is at Royal Oaks Park immediately following the parade. From the above, go east on Huntington Dr. to Las Lomas Dr...about 1.5 miles...and turn left. Royal Oaks Park is 2 blocks ahead on the corner of Las Lomas and Royal Oaks Drive.

MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, WALNUT. MSAC has just built a beautiful new theater complex to showcase plays, concerts, art shows, and more. Great professional and student productions share the centers three main venues: the Sophie Clarke Theater, the Recital Hall, and the small, intimate Studio Theater. All at very reasonable prices.

The accessibility here rates a special mention. This is one of the best venues I've ever seen for disabled patrons to visit.

Take the 10 (San Bernadino) freeway east to Grand Ave. Turn right and go over the hill to MtSAC. On the corner of Grand & Temple.

THE ORANGE COUNTY FAIR in Costa Mesa is a very fun and manageable fair to attend. It will be in July this year. Not nearly as big & crowded as the L.A. County Fair, this fair is more like it should be. Great entertainment, rides, displays, and racing are in store for you here. Take the 405 South to the 55 Freeway. Head toward Newport Beach and the fairgrounds will be on your right. Click on the link above for this year's dates and pricing.

THE WEINER DOG NATIONALS

in Los Alamitos in June is a unique event. What is it? Basically it's weiner dog racing. Presented for charity, daschunds take to the track on a 50 yard dash for glory. Also on hand is live quarter-horse racing. You can bet on the horses, but the weiner dogs are just for fun. Cost is $4.00 for adults, kids are free with paid adult. At Los Alamitos Race Course. Take the 605 Freeway south to Katella (the last exit before the 405) and head east towards Los Alamitos. The racetrack will be on your left after about 1 mile.
