Flag Description: This flag is loaded with battle honors. Appearing on the flag are the following: NEW MADRID, ISLAND No 10, SEIGE OF CORINTH, NASHVILLE, CHICKAMAUGA, MISSION RIDGE, KNOXVILLE, ROCKY FACE, RESACCA (sp), 16th REGT ILLINOIS VET VOL, ROME, DALLAS, KENESAW MOUNTAIN, PEACHTREE CREEK, JONESBORO, ATLANTA, SAVANNAH, CHARLESTON, AVERASBORO (sp), BENTONVILLE, RALEIGH.



Earlier 16th Illinois Infantry National Flag

Comments: The arrangement of the stars in the canton is similar to flags manufactured by Horstmann Bros. & Co of Philadelphia. The men of this Regiment came from Adams, Brown, Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, Pike, and Schulyer Counties.






16th Illinois Infantry Regimental Flag

Comments: Based on the position of the stars, the head of the eagle and the lower scroll, this flag was most likely manufactured by Evans & Hassall of Philadelphia.
