What do I do?
It's not easy, but man is it a lot of fun! A whole new world with a bunch of new perspectives on almost everything in life. A little human beeing that will alway be linked to oneself and be a part of oneself whether you want it or not! And just when you think you've got the hang of it, something new happens! I plan to ad a little special section for Willem, for those who are interested in little children in general and for relatives and friends who want to know how Willem is doing.
I discovered cyberspace just a year ago, when I started working for my present employer. Since then, this has been one of my most time-consuming interests. I don't have internet at home, as this is still pretty expensive in Norway. No worries, though! I have free access to internett both at university and at work. I also have email adresses both places. It's a bit uncomfortable to have to go out to read my mails, chat or surf, but I save a lot of money. Anywayt, I don't think I would have time to sit down by my PC at home, with a todler todling about and constantly doing (I have to admit) far more interesting things than what happens on the infamous net!
I'm presently studying sociology at the University of Oslo, which is the largest university in Norway, with about 35.000 students. I'm about to start my graduate studies and I am working at a thesis on Executive search (headhunting) in relation to sociological teories on organizational culture: "The headhunted entrance into a new organizational culture - Theoretic problem areas"
I plan to write my graduate thesis on the same matter, but then focusing on real-life problems hopefully studying real-life executive who have been recruited by executive search (headhunted) and their personal problems entering a new culture. Hopefully I'll start graduate studies and writing on this theses in January 1997. In Norway, graduate studies last 2 yrs. and build on a undergraduate degree (candidatus magistratis) of about 4 yrs. This undergraduate degree can be built in several different ways. Mine is described in the CV Go to CV .
As you can see, this is pretty heavy and long-lasting stuff, but it is not unusual for norwegian youth to enter educations this long these days. There's actually been what has been coined a "Student explotion" in Norway, and the number of youths attending colleges and universities has risen dramtatically the last 4-5 years. This also means that it is difficult to get accepted into the college/university of your choice.
I have alway had a lot of extra-curricular activities, but now I spend most of my free time with my new family.
I have allways had a dream of running the marathon. This year I hope that I'll do it - halfway that is! I'll start Oslo halfmarathon September 15. at about 16.00 pm CET. But I have some serious training to do before I get that far! Some punds/stone/kilos has to get lost and I have to do a lot of running, cycling and working out to be able to do it. I used to be a rower, but since becomming a student, the physical condition has become more suited to sitting on my ass reading than to running somewhere at all. I cycle everywhere I want to go, but it isn't enough. More about this as the big day aproaches...
