Terrell Thomas Goldsby
**SETTLERS OF SHELBY COUNTY TN and Adjoining Counties,p 71

The earliest record of the GOLDSBY family in America is found in English duplicates of the Lost Virginia records of THOMAS GOLDSBY, James City County, Virginia, 1714. His son, PETER GOLDSBY moved to Wilkes County, Georgia and PETER GOLDSBY's son RICHARD came to Tennessee after his sons TERRELL T. and MYLES settled here. According to family legend, around 1820, TERRELL T. and MYLES left their families in Georgia and came to Tennessee, walking with an Indian guide from Randolph Landing to an area in District 3 of Shelby County between Raleigh and Millington in the vicinity of present Lucy, TN.
When they were settled, they were joined by their father RICHARD, their wives and slaves. RICHARD GOLDSBY's will was probated in Shelby County Tn in 1840. Small bequests were made to 2 daughters and one son and grandson and it was indicated that they had previously been provided for. They apparently remained in Georgia as none of them were listed in the 1830 census. TERRELL T. and MYLES inherited the balance of his estate, consisting of land, negroes and personal property.
TERRELL T. was a planter as were his descendants for another two generations. MYLES moved to Louisiana after his father's death.
The earliest Shelby County record found of TERRELL T. is in a jury list of 1823 at Raleigh Courthouse. Another early record shows that he was told to build a bridge across the Loosahatchie River, which is thought to be the southern boundary of his land.
TERRELL GOLDSBY is buried in the family cemetery on property owned by BILLY VENABLE, a great-great grandson.
