Dear Miss Strong
I received your circular letter some time ago. Would have reply
before this but my little girl has been very sick. Would have
written on your post card But it was not large enough for the
few words I have to say in regards to your great and good cause
for it there ever was a lot of men Who deserved to be cared for
it is and old Confederate soldier Who is unable to take care of
himself for I know something of there Suffering and endurance
for I left Tuskaloosa Ala the 13th of Dec 1861 and was captured near
Sailbury (Salisbury) N.C. the 12th April 1865 by General
Stonman Command and was released from Camp Chase prison at
Columbus Ohio 13th June/65. Comrad H. (or L.) B. Morris of
Itta Bena and Com B. N. Merrell who dide (died) in Greenwood
some time ago was released the same day. Yes your order in there work
all I and you may asses me $10.00 and if I am able will give more when
the ten is called for For knowing of some of leaders of the cause I
feel that it will be a success and not money wasted.

Cordine, died eight months later 18 Jan 1901. She is buried in Greenbriar Cemetery, Itta Bena, Mississippi. **
