Demographical Analysis: Religion
Demographical Analysis: Religion
by Doctrina

Religion is not a very highly developed aspect of EverQuest. A character’s faith (or lack of it) does not really affect his everyday existence in Norrath very much. However, it will make a difference. Religion adjusts faction, and therefore vendor prices. In addition, the correct allegiance is needed to be able to wield certain items and perform certain quests.

Although figures have never been released concerning the religious affiliation of Erudites specifically, statistics have been released for the general population (see “Fippy’s Facts” on the official website). From these figures certain conclusions can be drawn. A certain amount of research (basically asking Erudites I have met as to their religion) has also been done.

With such small sample sizes the results can only be very broad. For example, it is very possible there is variation from server to server. Also, many of the characters on which the original statistics were made may be “dead” characters (i.e. no longer played). It is also possible that choices of deity become more or less “fashionable” over time. Nevertheless, as of right now, this is the best estimate I can make of religious affiliations.

There are only five religious options available to Erudites. Once you have chosen your religion at character creation, you can never (rather unrealistically) change it.

Throughout Norrath as a whole agnosticism is the most popular choice of faith (or in this case, non-faith) a feeling that Erudites are well in tune with. The general consensus seems to be that religion only gets you into trouble and that agnosticism is therefore a fairly safe bet! Although only three of the seven character classes available to Erudites actually have the option to be agnostic, these are by far the most popular three. In particular, there is a strong body of thought that holds that agnostic is the only real choice for Enchanters. Basically Erudites are not a particularly devout lot! Agnostic: At least 40%, and probably higher.

All Heretics must be worshippers of Cazic-Thule. There is no choice. As about a quarter of all Erudites have opted not to follow Erud’s vision, this must make Cazic-Thule the second most popular of the religious options. Cazic-Thule: About 25%.

Worship of Prexus the ocean lord is rather rare, for no really very obvious reason. The temple of the deepwater knights is nicely positioned, their low-level quests are as good as any and they have superior faction modifiers with other faiths and races. The only conclusion is that Erudites choose not to follow Prexus precisely because it IS easier and they want a bit of a challenge. To put it bluntly, Prexus is considered boring. Prexus: Only about 5-6%.

Quellious is undoubtedly the most popular choice of deity for lightside Erudites. The temple of Quellious has at least four times as many followers as the principal alternative, Prexus – possibly even more. This in spite of the negative faction Quellious has with just about everyone else. In fact, it may be because of the negative faction with just about everyone else. Erudites like a challenge! Quellious: Probably about 20-25%.

Solusek Ro is only available as a deity to those Erudites who choose to be Wizards. There is evidence to suggest that a much smaller percentage of Erudite wizards, as opposed to other races, take the master of fire up on the invitation. It is yet another indication that most people who play Erudites are out for something a little “different”. Solusek Ro: No more than 5%, probably less.
