Prakash Divas of Guru Granth Sahib

In order to celebrate the 400th Prakash Divas of Guru Granth Sahib, it was thought to create awareness, among the Sangat to read and understand Gurbani. A good percentage of Gurmukhi learned Sikh population has never done Path from Guru Granth Sahib. There are some inhibitions, hesitations and fear of mistakes, which keeps people away from recitation and learning of Gurbani. The best way for this is that a series of Sehaj Path should be started at a number of places. This will create the habit of reading Gurbani. Those who cannot recite Gurbani easily will be able to take help from others among the Sangat. Posters were distributed for this purpose among most of the Gurdwaras in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and most of the places in Maharashtra.

The initiation for this collective effort was started from Guru Tegh Bahadar Nagar, Mumbai on 13th September 2003. Initially, it was planned to start with the Sangat consisting of 500 personals. However, the response increased tremendously with the Grace of Akal Purkh. The number went above 1000. This also created a temporary shortage of Guru Granth Sahibs (Guru Granth Sahib in the form of Four or Two Volumes). This was also solved with the efforts of our members of Study Circle. This success was as a result of a combined initiative by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle Maharashtra, Gurmat Missionary College Mumbai and few Gurdwara Managements. This effort would also make people interested in learning Gurmukhi and to perform better when reciting Gurbani.

Similar program was started in Aurangabad on 28th September 2003. Here also initial plan was to start Sehaj Path with the Sangat consisting of 150 personals. However, the response increased and it went above 250. Now, it will be started at Gurdwara Sahib, Shere Punjab, Andheri, Mumbai, on 5th October 2003. The other places where similar programs will be started in near future are, Goa, Vapi, AhmedNagar, Indore, Hyderabad, Nasik, Nagpur, ShreeRamPur, Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, etc.

A diary was also distributed where you could maintain details of the date, page number, Shabad to start next. It also has pages to write the Shabad you would like to remember and the Shabad that you could not understand or found problem while reading. We need to put in united dedicated effort to live up to the following Shabad of Gurbani "Aap Jape Avre Naam Japave". Please live up to Gurbani principles and motivate others to follow this path. Guru Granth Sahib in the form of Four or Two Volumes can be obtained from the following places.

In addition to this, regular classes on Gurbani recitation and understanding are held on Sundays at Guru Tegh Bahadar Nagar, Mumbai. Sangat of 100 to 200 people attends these. Please come forward and share more ideas, and above that, find time to be a part of the dedicated forces working for the betterment of the Panth and the society.
