Who are They

They were formed in 1942 as result of the merger between Carcavelinhos (formed in 1912) and União de Lisboa (formed in 1910). They were a very successful club in the 40's and 50's with two 3rd places in the League and two time beaten finalists in the cup. The decline of the industry in Alcântara neighbourhood and the construction of the new bridge marked the slow decline in the club fortunes. Atlético now yo-yos between the 3rd and 4th level.

Stadium

Atlético play at the 15.000 Tapadinha stadium, an old stadium with a fantastic view over the Tagus River, Cristo Rei and 25 of Abril Bridge. The stadium was opened in 1945 and is showing is age as little improvements were made since then.

The best way to arrive to Atlético stadium is by bus. Take number 24. This bus passes also at Casa Pia stadium.

Take a walk downhill to the river. If you want, you can take a train in Alcântara-Mar to Belém, Cascais or to the center of Lisbon.
