...and separate () from among you
those who rebel
and those who transgress against Me
Yechezkel 20:38 (Artscroll translation)

Yaakov Choueka's Rav-Milim Dictionary (Center for Educational Technology, 1997) defines Berurim as , (, ') - (Check many similar items and remove those that are not appropriate: Separate and examine rice and rinse it well before cooking). The process of removing the discarded and unwanted element is Brira, .

That will be your goal in this process. You will receive a number of offers. Select or discard those that are not suitable marriage candidates. You will then date only those who remain.

After all, you do not want to meet an endless number of possible marriage partners. Your goal is to limit them as much as possible.

Artscroll comments on the above verse, "The rebels and the sinners will be weeded out [i.e., Brira - dg] and not be permitted to make a breach in the whole family of Israel who are destined to serve God and be worthy of His good name." This quotation may be a bit strong. Those whom you do not select are not likely to be "rebels and sinners." However, the concept is quite clear.

Where do you want to go now?
