Every so often there is an economic slowdown in Western countries. People lose their jobs and feel disappointed that they cannot earn as much money as before.
Some of these people choose to come to Israel at that time. They don't plan to stay here forever. They want to weather the storm back "home." When economic conditions in their field improve, they expect to return to their country of origin.
This happens more frequently in volatile fields, such as the high tech world. As a specific branch of the Western economy suffers, many people ask whether they can find a similar job in Israel.
Maybe they can. Maybe they can't.
However, that�s not the point. Israel does not need more yoyos to milk the country for retraining, language study, and more. We don't need to retrain and provide for the cultural, social, and language needs of otherwise qualified people who will then leave as soon as economic circumstances or the job market look better back "home."
Israel should not rescue those who need temporary or brief employment. Israel is meant to be a home, a place where Jews can live during good times as well as bad times. Only long-term residents who commit themselves to a life in Israel should ask for the privileges that the country may offer.
Others should resolve their own economic, financial, and employment problems, before placing the unfair additional burden and strain on Israel.
