Friends and relatives of those who move to Israel often urged Olim to move back to their original countries in the West. Those who are successful never accept that offer - and success is based more on an attitude than on a pocketbook.
Life is too short to experiment with different homes, different locations, and different places to live. It's worse when you make a mistake and have to correct your ways.
A person must have roots. He has a need to settle and to have a place that he calls home. He may want to visit other places briefly, but he should never "try out" a country to see if he can make it or survive there.
An intelligent person should decide where he or she wants to live. He should then remain in or move to that place, after which he should do everything possible to sink his roots there. A wise person knows how to make a decision properly. He makes the most of a counselor or a consultant. He does not flip-flop, since he wants to lead a stable life.
Successful people have more to do in life than to experiment in various countries. They do not have to keep starting out with new homes, locations, and places to live in.
A stable individual may visit or tour other places for a brief period of time, or for a sabbatical. However, an extended visit without a commitment is nothing more than a waste of a significant part of a serious person's life.
Real Aliyah is an informed commitment. "Trying it out" with an attitude of "let's see what happens" is the mark of a fool.
