Protest
I'm all for it

This page is still under construction.

Some articles in this section are so objective that they may mislead the reader. Let's understand the situation more clearly.

Demonstrations are good. People should not accept government decisions blindly. They should cry out in order to change wrong or evil decrees. This is a basic right of citizens in any democracy.

On the other hand, people should think. They should act in an intelligent manner. Unfortunately, that element is missing in our society. It has been replaced by insidious demonstrations that are based on hopelessness.

Our political leaders have sensible, diplomatic, political, and legal means at their disposal. When used in a timely manner, they can obviate the need for many demonstrations. These leaders can negotiate with the authorities when a problematic issue is at stake.

In many cases, the very skills that helped our leaders get elected may succeed in thwarting those evil decrees.

Our lawmakers and leaders do not carry out their jobs in the right manner, time, or place. Instead, they ask the masses to compensate for their inaction and incompetence, after it is too late. They ask us to take to the streets in order to fight poor government decisions.

The politicians are wrong to ask the masses to demonstrate. No, it doesn't help if the police break the heads of a few politicians as well as civilians. That does little more than to create additional headaches and headlines.

The political leaders' inaction is not a mistake. They had an insidious reason to postpone the demonstration until they could no longer act by diplomatic means.

Their goal was to make a show of their phony panic. They wanted to appeal to their constituents' feelings, rather than to their logic. They wanted to present heart-rending speeches: "Do you realize what's about to happen?"

Yes, the politicians actually created the disaster by their inaction. They planned the crisis. They had only one goal to create headlines for themselves.

They could have done their job quietly, in advance, by using democratic means. However, a bad government decision that was not implemented will not offer them the publicity and headlines that they crave. Those politicians wanted those headlines more than they wanted to resolve the issue itself!

By the time these leaders took a public stand, there was indeed nothing to do but to demonstrate. If the demonstrators won the issue, then the politicians would be heroes. If they lost the issue, then they would criticize the demonstrators ("if only more people had turned out, we could have won").

Baloney. It had nothing to do with the turnout. However, our leaders did not really care whether they won or lost. Their only concern was to achieve their own headlines.

The procedure has already been refined to a science. Our elected leaders draw the throngs out to the streets, they get on a soapbox, and they create headlines for themselves. They have set the stage for their own power and glory. Their speechwriters helped them say things that will make the crowd cheer.

When that issue fades from the news, the politicians repeat the process. For some inexplicable reason, we then allow them to promote their own glory at our expense, over and over again.

This is wrong. This is evil. This is a corrupt way to run a country. It is a perverted way to deal with controversial issues.

Yes, the concept of protesting is good. However, citizens should protest in order to help a cause, rather than to promote a politician's personal career.

An honest protest should reject those who want personal headlines. It should be led by people who really care about the issues, rather than those who demand headlines or fanfare. Such self-effacing public servants may be difficult to find, but they are our only hope for resolving our crises.

Yes, that does leave one unanswered question:

What gainful employment can we offer our politicians?

Where do you want to go now?
