Protektzia involves obtaining special connections with somebody who can help you cut through red tape and achieve your goals more easily. Those who have no influential protektzia are sometimes jealous of those who do have it.
Some Israelis come from cultures in which a developed use of protektzia is a national sport. Their cronies help them achieve goals, through nepotism or misuse of their position. As a result, protektzia can have a negative or corrupt side, creating conflicts of interest with the "have nots."
