There's protektzia all over, but Israel was the first to turn it into a way of life.
The basic features were imported from Iron Curtain countries. However, Israel did such a good job of turning it into a Jewish product that even the Russians should now study how to benefit from it.
People who know that it pays to be friendly with others will act accordingly. That's certainly an improvement in society - at least from those who receive the friendly behavior.
It may be a bit painful to get slapped on a sunburned back, but you will tolerate it if you realize that you can never predict the source for your next shekel.
Protektzia also helps people's abilities to work a room. You will want to speak to everybody you meet, since you can never tell where your (barshert or) your next job offer may come from.
People's opportunities increase, and they develop more and more friends, as they become more and more involved in Israeli life.
Protektzia - it's not such a bad thing after all!
