If the politicians have us in their pocket, then we are in a difficult position. How can we know which side to support? Shall we support the political party that is closest to our own ideals? Shall we support the opposition? It's hard to tell.
These very questions are amazing. We are confronted with opposites that are equal to themselves. Up has become down. Right has become Left, and sane policies are reversed.
These opposites may themselves be the issue. The reversal of policy forces the reversal of politics, and policy conflicts with itself.
The ancient Greeks understood this problem. They were the first to develop the concept of democracy (which is not a Jewish concept). The Greek polis and politics were closely interlinked, and they developed distinctions over the course of time.
Today's modern Israel illustrates how far they departed from each other, and today, the concepts are near opposites.
That process continued over the course of the generations. Now, the opposites have reversed themselves again. They are now the same as the original!
