In politics, it seems, Leadership? Leaders? The concept is used loosely in Israel.
A person whose life is devoted to castigating his opposition can hardly be called a leader.
However, you should certainly expect a leader to present wise decisions, concepts, and ideas, or to save the nation from its ills. Again, we're going to be disappointed.
Can we hope that future politicians will be better? Unlikely. People speak respectfully about their political predecessors. Although they were not great leaders, they were certainly of a greater caliber when viewed in retrospect or when contrasted with the existing teams. We try to maintain some hope and anticipation, even though the trend indictes that future leaders will be worse than their precedents.
There are reasons why politicians are so bad. Those reasons would be acceptable in a normal world. However, the results of the politicians' game are sometimes deadly.
Somebody suggested naming streets after wannabe politicians to keep them happy - and then sending them out to pasture before they do any damage. We can then hire the good leaders to run the country.
