The world keeps going

Politics seems to be a major and continuing topic of discussion throughout Israel. The general trend seems to be either one of hopelessness and helplessness, or a repeated "Hashem ya'azor," G-d will help, as they rely on a miracle.

Unfortunately, most of the discussions are futile, inane, and often just plain silly. The people are discussing the wrong issues.

Basically, the topic seems to be, "Okay, the government did a bunch of serious silly things now. What should they do to get out of the latest mess?"

Nobody seems to discuss the real issues. They do not think about the steps that led up to the mess. They do not analyze should be done so that the country will not be in a similar mess again. Nobody seems to care about the important fact, that there do not seem to be any overall goals or plans. The government simply bumbles or is forced along by its political partners and international allies into putting out the little fires.

However, there is no real overall solution or discussion about what should be done.

If the government would have a clear direction and if it would know what it wants to accomplish, then it wouldn't be swayed by the other forces that want to solve the minor, immediate issues.

Perhaps the continuing war situation has prevented the government from having the luxury of discussing basic issues such as, "Okay, where are we going? What do we want to accomplish? Where should we be in the next six months, year, five years, ten years, twenty years, century?"

Thus, even if a solution would be found to an immediate problem, it would just unearth the next priority item.

This does not mean that there are no thinkers. There are thinkers. They are individuals and there are even think tanks. However, these discussions and ideas and there are also conventions to discuss things. People write articles and books about the future.

However, none of these concepts are considered seriously or taken seriously and after all is said and done, they have no impact on the status or the government. Things just keep going as if nobody did have any ideas. The focus of the discussion seems to be simply whom can we blame, rather than what should be done. What basic changes should be done in society to make serious changes?

Where do you want to go now?
