How bad it is
University

A local Israeli acquaintance complained bitterly about how bad it is in Israel. She was a professor at a local university, but "they" were unresponsive and inconsiderate of her perceived qualities – "they" didn't offer her tenure, and "they" offered her the worst classes.

She complained about suffering in Israel's rat race. She did not blame the University. The problem was Israel. She left Israel, of course, and returned to the States.

Ten years later, she was back for a visit. Boy, she said, American universities are nasty. They offered her only per diem work, and they docked her pay unfairly for various things – you can imagine her stories. She even used the same key words, the "rat race". B. F. Skinner would have been proud.

At the end, she asked what universities were like here.

She had forgotten.

I didn't answer her question. I just told her what she had said ten years earlier about Israeli universities. Her eyes opened wide with astonishment.

There's more:

When she was in Israel, she castigated the entire country for her failure to succeed in the university. Now, while in the States, she limited her criticism to a more vague "rat race."

What a hypocrite!

Where do you want to go now?
